QSpring BSM ///M4 Build Thread (Lots of pics/Dyno) HEX Stage 2, BBS FIR, and more!
Current Status: Long time since an update! Lots of changes:
1. Installed VF/CSF Top Mount Charge Cooler and Front Mount Heat Exchanger (Posted Below) 2. New Aero Components (Post Coming Soon) 3. Throttle update with VF Engineer Hex Tune Stage 2 for manual transmission. Dyno Results Dyno results posted for stage 1 Hex Tune vs. Stage 2 Hex Tune with intake, eismann exhaust, and DPs. Full disclosure: The dyno was done at VF engineering on a dynojet. I asked for uncorrected, SAE, and STD for comparison. I also plan on setting up an independent dyno (hopefully on another dynojet) to compare numbers. Hoping to get this done by June 17th. Overall - I'm happy with the results. I was looking to make around 500 whp/525 ft/lb tq. on 91 oct. I'll write more on the overall driveability as I get more miles on the car. Right now i've put about 200 miles and I'm still getting used to the tune. Results Stage 1 -> Stage 2 (Uncorrected) Stage 1 -> Stage 2 (STD Correction) Stage 1 -> Stage 2 (SAE Correction) I've been lurking here and there since I bought my 2016 Black Sapphire Metallic in Sept 2015. She's a 6MT stripper. I decided I would start a build thread as a photo journal for my m4. All photos are taken with canon 6D. I'll be back tracking as I fill in the journal with all my past and pictures. Background I picked up my 2016 BSM M4 from Irvine BMW in September 2015. I was looking every where to test drive a MT, and ended up finding one locally. I’ve always wanted an M car, and had a few opportunities in the last few years but ended up going with other cars – a Nissan 370z and Infiniti FX-35. I’m a big fan of the e36 and e46 M3, but the e92 gas guzzler tax didn’t work well with my finances a few years back. Fast forward to the F82 and could not be happier. First stop was to Rhino Custom Detailing for paint correction, PPF, and opticoat pro plus Wheels - Tires - Suspension (Coming Soon) Interior (Coming Soon) Exterior (Coming Soon) Engine Mods Exhaust Install by Supremepower

Real good looking car and good taste in mods. Waiting to see your dyno results since I have a 6speed and might be doing the stage 1 vf tune soon.

Drive Review @ 500 miles with Hex tune Stage 2
Update 6/9/16 - Thoughts on Hex Tune Stage 2 and Eisenmann Exhaust
I have about 500 miles on the odometer with the Hex tune stage 2 and have a better feel now of the car. Pros: The car pulls like a bat out of hell even more so than I remember on jb4 map 2. Sports/Sports+ throttle is more aggressive than w/ JB4 map 2. There really no need to downshift to over take cars other than wanting to hear that sweet WOT roar. The GTS start up sounds great! No need to search for an E85 gas station to fill up- She likes 91 Octane again! Cons: Switching to sports/sports+ on cold start makes the exhaust sound really really loud and raspy (not in a good way). The fix to this, I keep it in efficient mode until the car warms up. With the eisenmann exhaust, it sounds much more aggressive is efficient mode. I attribute most of this change to the exhaust, since on the stock exhaust system I didn't get this as much. Review For the first few hundred miles, you'll need to relearn the car. The throttle response is more sensitive post flash. You're also dealing with more torque, so throttle modulation is a must. Sports throttle behaves similar to sports plus pre flash. So what's sports+ like? It turns the car into an insane beast. The throttle settings makes it like being able to drive 3 different cars in one at the push of a button. She can be a lady in the street (efficient) and a freak in the sheets (Sports +). Sports is somewhere in between. Some things I've noticed that didn't happen with JB4 are TC light lighting up in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th gear WOT. This is with US MDM active and sports throttle. MDM and sports+, I'm getting aggressive intervention and a loud "brraappp" noise as it cuts power to prevent slippage. To prevent this, I turn off TC completely, and get no intervention and allow the wheels to slip. I'm not one to go TC off on public streets, and I'll be the first to admit I could use a few "driver mods" before being fully comfortable driving this way. Gas mileage. Since I drive this daily (except in the rain), I am going to comment on gas mileage. Can't really get a feel for what I can average, but I've only put in two tanks of gas over 500 miles. I'll get a better feel for it once I'm back to driving normally. I'm still slowing down and speeding up since this thing makes me giggle at WOT. That says a lot that this tune can make a grown man giggle.

So this is one amazing looking and sounding car, no doubt about it.
But one thing completely distracted me, the horrid weld jobs on the eisenmann exhaust, am I the only one that noticed? Around where the tips meet the muffler. Not expected from a $5k exhaust. But back to the m4, gorgeous n tasteful.

Install: VF Engineering| Charge Air Cooler & CSF Front Mount Heat Exchanger
VF Engineering and CSF Radiators collaborated to develop a larger charge air cooler and front mount heat exchanger for the BMW F80/F82 platform.
Benefits:
Short Review for the: HP Junkie: Give or take +8/10 hp/tq. because of cooler temps. Track Guy: Lower IAT = less heat soak = faster car = better times Butt Dyno: That feeling you get when the air is cool, and the car feels more responsive. It should feel like that during normal operating temperatures. Why did I buy it: Improved Cooling Added HP/TQ from the HEX Tune or any upgrades that pushes the limits of your car, heat becomes a limiting factor. Stability over longer periods of pushing your car becomes more a factor especially for those who look to push the M4/M3 at the track. More info on my blog:
