My speed limiter came at 165, how did you do 170 without a tune?

I've heard with MT you can keep it in 5th gear (look at the video screen capture and it is in 5th gear and near red line) and fool the limiter. Would love to confirm that.

Nice vid. Who wants to start the discussion about racing gloves and a helmet in his driveway?

So that's the trick? Just stay in 5th?

I think 5th gear on a manual transmission allows you to get up to 170 mph. Not sure why the speed limiter doesn't stop you at 165 mph.

Just a heads up. I have Bridgestone RE71r 255/40/18 on the front and 275/35/18 on the back. The difference in rolling diameter compared to stock 275/40/18 could be the reason for the higher speed read out.

Not really? I did this run only now in my own comp m3. Stayed fifth gear and got up to 174mph. My friend shifted to 6th and he hit the limited at 182 mph. Need to go to Mexico again to run my car.

Sounds great, but perhaps cutting it a bit close on downshifts?

Wouldn't the trac control light come on if it were on a dyno?

If that's a stupid question I apologize, my first BMW hasn't come in yet so I'm just going from experience with other cars.

EDIT: More importantly, that's stupid fast!! Thanks for the video!

Hate to Break it to you guys but the speed in the car is about 10-15mph+ overstated at 170mph. BMW does this on purpose, A GPS is only was to get a true speed reading. And even with a GPS need 5-10hz for truely accurate vs. 1 hz iphone
