F80 ZCP Drifting: Impressions - Videos - Photos
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Since the day I took delivery of my 6MT F80 M3 Competition Package I have been creating a lot of content aimed towards seeing if the ZCP option is really "worth it" and just how the car drives in general. While I won't be comparing the ZCP to the standard car in this writeup, hopefully from the videos you will just how easy it is to place this car and toss it around on track. I find it much more confidence inspiring and easier to handle than the non ZCP cars. Previous Posts: Delivery: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1242823 Track review: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1252978 The Story: Caffeine & Carburetors is a world class Cars and Coffee event that started years ago in my town of New Canaan, CT. Since the show has gained popularity they started to host a special yearly gathering at our local track, Lime Rock Park. On Saturday morning my friends Rob and Hannah hopped in the M3 with me and we had a leisurely drive up to Lime Rock. We parked the car in the grass parking area on the outfield and started to look around at the amazing equipment parked in the lot. I began my usual routine of drooling over the cars, speaking with owners about their machines, and smelling the great smells of race fuel and old leather. Hannah had never been to a race track before so Rob and I took her down into our sanctuary, I mean the infield, and walked around watching the SCCA race teams prep their cars, themselves, and the crew for track duty. Our tour continued past the autocross track where I noticed a Hyper Blue MINI R53 tearing it up on the track. Being a MINI guy at heart I had to go say hello and connect with the driver. As the MINI driver and I were talking, I mentioned the fact that Hannah had never been to a track and she is loving being around all the cars. He said, "I actually rented the short track for the day for myself and some friends, do you want to take her out?" Next thing you know we are walking at a near jog pace to grab the car and have some fun. What followed turned out to be the most fun and unexpected afternoon of pure smiles and tire smoke. As an added bonus, Robs wife and daughter were on their way up to the track in his e92 M3 and he was able to rip up the track with me... You'll see him in the video. I'm not one to go out and set lap times as my main goal, while I can, it's much more enjoyable for me to focus on car control and safe entertainment behind the wheel. Track Time: We were told that passengers were allowed, helmets weren't needed, and to have as much fun as we wanted. So we did. I ended up giving passenger drifting rides to friends and spectators, it's the reason I went for the four door M3... The more the merrier! Rather than giving you a detailed description on how the car drives when you're pretending to be "Drift Monkey", Chris Harris, I'll just post the video and leave it there. Hope you enjoy it! The last minute or so of the video was one of Hannah's laps in the car... It was great seeing her so excited! It's amazing how a normal day can turn into one that you'll remember forever. Big thanks to the guys at Lime Rock Park and Pelham Motorsports Club for letting us wreck some tires! Kyle, it was so great seeing you again. I had a blast shooting your car as it ripped around the track. If anyone wants to see more of my (better) work you can head over to my instagram page @sixspeedphotos and https://sixspeedphotos.smugmug.com

Only if the pavement is covered in rain, snow, sand, etc.
Tried numerous times way back when in my friends 1989 Miata. Even with ebrake assistance, not enough power. Not even close. Then there are those cars that would be far worse to try. Smart ForTwo comes to mind, lol. Sweet vid!! Thanks for sharing. |

Just phenomenal! Saw this video over on the Obsessed Garage FB page and had to come here to check out the full story. Really good post, man. How much experience had you had with drifting prior to putting the M sideways? You looked good out there and I thoroughly enjoyed the video. I'm going out to the Thermal race track here in Cali next week for a BMW event and I'm nervous but excited. They'll be teaching me how to race, drift and other techniques behind M cars. Never done any of that before but as a new M3 owner, how could I pass this up!?

great vids. Did you do a clutch kick to get the car sideways or was it just power oversteer?
Saw you use handbrake a couple of time too? I assume all drifts took place in second gear? Awesome pics and vids. Keep em coming |
