Expert tuners, need advice/help
I've been slowly trying to tune my new stereo when ever I get free time from the wife and kid.
My stereo consists of base stereo hu with 82dsp, running active to the MBQ 200.3 (yes I know these speakers are not ideal for this situation, I may upgrade later if I can't get the sound any better ). My issue is that I can't seem to get decent mid bass punch. I currently have the MB crossed at 45-175. I've tried raising and lowering the x-over points and doesn't seem to make a difference. It just doesn't seem like the MB has a lot of output. So I was thinking, maybe I messed up the install and have the MB out of phase with each other. (This is where it gets weird) I flipped the phase of one of the mb's , and I got more punch...but, I loose bass fill and it sounds like there is a black hole now on the side of the car that I flipped the phase??? Indicating to me that the phase was fine from the get go, but then why do I get more punch with the phase flipped??? I've tried messing with TA. Helps with the imaging, but it does nothing to the punchyness. Any input would be much appreciated! |

Those speakers are probably not capable of much output in the first place. To rule out a tune-related issue, have you tried loading some of the expert files, for the Hifi system for example?

Most people with simple amps
Most people with simple amps cannot bandpass they can only
low pass I see no reason to bandpass if you don't have a sub. Let the speaker do as much as it can do. this is one of a 14 part ytube on adjusting a helix dsp. |

Expert files? Have not come across any, and it seems that none of the big companies have any tuning files for the 200.3's. At least they didn't want to send me any.

I tried not band passing, liking the results better. I also redid the whole tune from scratch again. I think I was getting some phase from my x-over points that was throwing me off. Also I realized, at least in the base stereo, that if you turn the fader in the car to full forward it reduces the sub frequencies. Turned the fader back to neutral and got some bass back. Thanks for your guys input. |
