Warning: laser speed traps on Commonwealth Avenue, Boston
The past week, I've seen cops using handheld laser guns while daily driving to and from class along Commonwealth Avenue, specifically along Boston University.
I also just got a laser alert on my Escort x8500 today passing BU bridge heading outbound towards Allston. Be careful everyone, I was luckily driving right below the speed limit. The cops are very alert. They've stared at me passing while they are lasering other cars, and I've even had one pull over so he could run my plates. My friend got off my car before I passed the cop. He walked by the cop and saw him working away on his in-car computer. The standard setup I've seen is one cop hidden or on the street running laser and a second cop in a car waiting ahead to pull over speeding cars.

Also I've seen a lot of laser going to work on VFW Parkway as well as Roxbury Parkway in Brookline.

Thanks for the heads up.. Boston must be trying to recover some of the millions that the Mass Turnpike lost (recent Metro article)

its possible... But you can't leave it on like radar. Some cops leave radar on and are driving around and you can pick up their k/ka band even if not clocking, its just on.
Laser is point and shoot one at a time which is why its more accurate and ur fucked if ur lidared. but also some new vehicles, the brake lights set off laser... Because of the diodes, laser is just lights. So new derangos always set off my V1

I've done some research on the legality and so far everywhere I've looked has said that laser jammers are legal in MA and regulated by the FDA.
I might have to look deeper to be 100% sure but so far I've found that they are however illegal in some states and in commercial vehicles.

We know that once your radar detector picks up a laser signal, you've been pretty much nailed, so that's why you need to jam the reading on the gun. The concept of the laser jammer is to temporarily jam the reading on the laser gun. Most of the jammers cannot jam the signal all the way to the gun, so the cop at one point might still be able to get your speed reading. Therefore, once you picked up the laser and your jammer started jamming the gun, you need to slow down to within speed limit so that when the cop do get a reading, you'll be well within the legal speed limit.

^BINGO
the point of a radar detector is to detect the cops clocking and lasering OTHERs in front of you, so it reads it and you hit the brakes. So if there are enough cars a radar detector can save you from laser buuuttt most of us are the people PASSING all the cars so defeats the purpose I might be getting a jammer soon also

I just got ticketed on 2022 Common ave on my way from BC to Back Bay.
The funny thing is, I was just following a old ford taurus that was going just as fast as me and I got pulled over instead. I somewhat complained to the cop that I was just following the flow of the car in front of me, and he told me that he was using a laser and it is target specific. Be careful everyone lol. Those $300-500 laser jammers look mighty tempting now... |

The ticket / fine is not the problem, but the real problem is getting ass raped on the insurance policy at renewal.....
Get a K40! It does pay off over time.

Yes, that is true, or if you have 5 accidents / moving violations within 3 years then you're required to attend a driver's ed course

No, unless you failed to take the course within a certain amount of time (I think it's 90 days), then your license will be suspended indefinitely until you've taken the course.
