Next generation BMW X5 (G05) is now on the 'ring!
BIMMERPOST NEWS Next generation BMW X5 (G05) is now on the 'ring! As the rumormill has suggested, faced with a rapidly updated GLE350 and generally intense competition in the segment, the X5 will get a replacement sooner then later. What is interesting is that the rumors point to NO LCI for the current F15 X5 with a direct move to the next G05 chassis instead. This video seems to support those rumors. THe next X5 is seen testing at the famed Nurburgring, which is usually a milestone in the development process. The BMW SAV does seem to keep a similar size, but appears noticably more svelte in its body movements on track. As keeping with the entire "G" chassis range for BMW, an emphasis will be on relative weight savings. |

I'm replacing my current m50d this winter and then I'm going for a G05 in 2019.

If they manage to bring it down in weight 3-400 pounds that would make a hell of a nice evolution.. here's hoping... (still looks pretty heavy judging by the body roll...)

Well, i loved the E53 and the E70, the F15 however, feels like the less impressive sibling in the X5 family. Besides, i guess with the X7, the smaller sibling needs to find it's new place. As a G class, hopefully it will be a better drivers car than the F15 is, and alot lighter as well.

Finally!
My wife had been a hardcore fan of x5, but I couldn't convince her( and honestly myself!) to choose new x5 over range rover sport, Bmw should regain its lost superiority in that segment.

E70 and F15 shared the same platform.
The new Q7 has a new platform and is much lighter than the previous model. The same will happen with the next generation Cayenne. Mercedes has the LCI released, but I guess the completely new model will be ready in two years. There is also a new VW Touareg in preparation and we have to take into account RR products and also the new XC 90 from Volvo. Only with a new model BMW can be back on top of the class. Their move is logic. |

5000 is/was a magic number in the USA
One thing to keep in mind on weight is that magic 5000 lb weight in the US got businesses accelerated depreciation for a number of years. Haven't checked accounting rules recently but give the large portion of these sold here they might be smart/forced to keep the weight no less than 5000.

You are correct, its 6000 lbs GVWR. Note however that gross vehicular weight is not the same as curb weight. http://www.section179.org/section_17...eductions.html |

The F15 X5 is not getting replaced due to competition within its segment.
BMW's typically have a seven year lifecycle and it is believed that the F15 chassis will have a five year lifecycle. The X5 and X6 are moving to a shared chassis with the upcoming X7. It is not because of the Mercedes-Benz GL thingy, and I called it that because they have so many classes now I cannot keep their SUV lineup straight anymore. |

If you search around the net, you won't find any equivalent F15s/E70s (actual measurements) that are 200-300 pounds lighter. Last edited by Phatcat; 07-25-2016 at 10:32 AM.. |
