Connecting Ipod/phone to Match DSP

Hi guys,

I am wanting to know the bast way to send my audio from ipod/iphone to my Match 82dsp? Kinda want to get rid of the weak link.

I like the idea of a BT connection into the Most input of the Match, but Im not sure if this would degrade the signal at all seeing as Iphone doesnt support aptx. I know the Match is supposed to have some burr brown converters, which are pretty badass, so it would be nice to take advantage of them. Any thoughts?

Also, Is there a way to hook my (older) Ipod to the Most input? I tried searching but couldnt find any usb to Most cable/converters.

Any input would be much appreciated.

There is a discussion of Inputs in this thread.
The aux on the BMW system is the weak point.
Go through the aux on the Helix or I believe they
make some kind of wireless device to directly input.

Thanks, yeah I've read that one before. I just wasn't sure if there has been anything new that has come out. Airenabler seems to be hit or miss, and everyone is sold out of them. Doesn't seem like the airenabler has optical out. I saw that turtle beach makes a usb to toslink adapter, would this work for going direct to the match?

You can use AUX directly into the amp no problem. We, more often than not though, would use a DAC for wireless streaming in and then via Toslink.

1)So there is a Dac to toslink device?
2) What us your take on aptx a saw a list and it looks
like quite of the newer phones both i and andriod support it.
3)Seems to me there would be a problem with to many converstions
with unwanted junk getting mixed in with the source files.
Dac to toslink to Dac to whatever.

Dac to toslink to Dac to whatever.
Yes, there are several.
Aptx is virtually lossless for Android, not iOS which would be AAC.
No issues at all, but also not a lot of conversions. Where are you thinking there are multiples ? DAC to toslink is really non existent as it's not converting Digital to Analog there. The DAC is just used as a hub for receiving a digital wireless transmission. The only conversion is within the amp which would happen regardless of what's on the other end of the Toslink cable.

You could use this device to get a digital signal right into the optical input of the Match/Helix unit.

Thanks guys. Yes that would work cdgatti, but I am on ios and want the best signal possible. Bluetooth would not be ideal for ios devices.

Sucks cause there are a bunch of wifi units out there, but they all pretty much get bad reviews. The Bluetooth receivers on the other hand get great reviews.

6speedcoupe, can you recommend a wifi receiver? Or do you only deal with Bluetooth?

WiFi is great if you want to make some adjustments to your settings internally to still be able to use normal WiFi. BT AAC will allow streaming without that and still in a near lossless format. We've had no problems or complaints thus far.

Which music sources actually output toslink?

Which music sources actually output toslink?

A usb stick actually outputs whatever format is recorded on it.
with a direct usb connection. And the Pro Radio head unit
seems to actually read most formats at least from the CD.
The object seems to be to get the digital source into the amp in as clean
a format as possible and to have the source got to best device to
convert it to analog.
Since as far as I know the other typical sources like phones or ipads
support a weak analog preout and the BMW aux is a weak input avoiding
those be the way to go.
That leaves you with Wi Fi or bluetooth of which wi fi doesn't use compression.

What adjustment would you have to make to wi fi its
already uncompressed isn't it just like playing a usb stick?

Funny it says my galaxy s5 is on the aptx list but it I haven't found
how to actually use or enable it if I wanted to.

So how would BT in AAC compare to running through the aux jack under the arm rest? Better, worse, the same?

Any source that has a toslink. It's like asking what sources output analog. Not being sarcastic, just giving perspective.

The adjustments would be to still actually be able to use WiFi. What if you're connected to your home network but you also want to stream to a device ? That's two different networks. More importantly if you want to stream, let's say Apple TV, you can't without reconfiguration as you're using WiFi which negates the network.

You use it by streaming BT. There is nothing to 'enable', it's already there and doing it.

Ok, I ended up getting a Audioengine B1 to try out.

Got it hooked up quickly to test it out, and now I just realized an issue I'm now facing. Since my car has the base stereo, and I'm running my 82dsp calibrated for the non-linear stock signal, now when I run my phone direct through BT into the 82dsp my signal is linear now, and my EQ is all out of wack!

So now my question to anyone familiar with the Match products. Is it possible to have one tune in the 82dsp be for my stock radio hook up, and then the other for my BT hook up? and can I have the 82dsp switch tunes based on which input it is seeing? Ie. AUX in tune for the stock radio hook up, and DIGITAL in for my BT hook up.
