NO DRILL Front Plate Solution

I really don't want the dealership to drill into my perfectly smooth front bumper. However, as most of you know, you can't pass the inspection and get an inspection sticker if your car does not have front plates, although there are places that would still give you a sticker regardless. My dealer is adamant that they will not give me an inspection unless I have front plates on my car. So, after some research on MBWorld and Porsche forums, I found this:

http://www.moweraxle.com

No more drilling to the front bumper!!

Um, I go to my dealership for inspections, and just had one done last week. I zip-tied my front plate to the lower grille for inspections. I will tell you one thing, they washed the car afterwards and the plate was already in the trunk.

Of course, I did not catch them in time to avoid drilling the bumper with delivery (I did not realize that the plate holder requires drilling). I now have two inconspicuous bumper plugs.

I'm mostly doing this to preserve the value of the front bumper when I try to sell it. Plus, I'm moving back to the midwest next year, a lot of the states do not require front plates.

Living here and in Chicago, front license plates have been required. Of the last 3 cars I owned, none had the front plate.

IL and WI cops really don't care. I was running rear UW Varsity plate only (illegal in both IL and WI) and no one ever bothered me. I think MO, IA, MI, are rear only.

I was ticketed one night when I parked in front of a club in Chicago, since my front end was exposed. $25 ticket, no fix-it.

I went to herb chambers for inspection last month. I did not have my front plate on, and no side reflectors. I was wondering whether it would pass inspection or not, but my SA just told me he could take care of it.

however, i got a $25 ticket for not having my front plates on newbury street a couple weeks ago.

You have to speak with your salesperson and make sure he knows to pass along to the service guys not to drill the bumper. The usually do the pre-delivery prep en-masse, so they may miss your request.

there are others like the skenedesign you have to drill holes on the bottom of the bumper, so it will not be visible.
