Your favorite E90 head units
Hey guys, its time for me to upgrade my head unit. What are you guys favorites? I've found threads from a couple years ago, but want to see if anything better has come out since then.

Changing the head unit is not widrly favored here
Changing the head unit is not widely favored here.
Mostly due to compatibility issues both with the car electronics and non OEM look. If you have the logic 7 sound system which has nothing to due with the head unit the only aftermarket head unit that will work with the car is the Dynavin N6 . This is because of the Most BUS connection amp and head unit. Also BMW cannot do diagnostics or software updates to to the car without the original head unit in the car or parallel mounted . There can be error messages and things like pdc weill cease to work in most cases. You will have a dead idrive screen if you happen to have idrive . You can upgrade the sound system if you happen to have the stereo or Hi Fi system with amps processors and speakers without side effects. head unit http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ight=head+unit http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1036190 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...hlight=dynavin http://www.janus-design.net/english/ http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=355089 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ight=head+unit http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...hlight=dynavin http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...hlight=dynavin http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...light=retrofit http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=993447 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1016187 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...hlight=dynavin Look up dynavin n6 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1016187 Last edited by ctuna; 09-21-2016 at 11:46 AM.. |

OEM retrofit of CIC or NBT is the way to go.

If you don't have iDrive, Dynavin N6 is the best OEM-like unit. I have a standard double DIN in my E90 (Pioneer) and love it, but it doesn't look as integrated as Dynavin (but has Pioneer quality).
I didn't need to relocate my HU (base audio), but you can and retain your ability to update car software etc. If you have iDrive, I hear upgrading to the newer iDrive version is well worth it if you're on the older one... and I think someone recently was even able to get the F30 NBT going in an E90. Good luck!

I have Pioneer CarPlay in my E93. Works great. The only problem I have is periodically it starts to drain the battery and I can't figure out why. Got to take it back to Car Electronics again. Really annoying. Anyone else had this issue?
Don't think I'd do this again in a BMW, too much trouble. |
