Soot on the exhaust pipes
Hi again,
I noticed that most of the 335d and X35d have really clean exhaust pipes, but mine are black... I can clean it and next day it is still OK, but after one week or so it is black again... I checked the intake and engine valves and they are clean, so no carbon there. What can be the cause of extra soot? Thank you. |

My solution is gloss black msport rear diffuser...paired with 4" black Cyba tips :-) works like a charm
Okay kidding aside mine is really okay for a week or so it seems...but take a long road trip and I can write my name on the rear bumper with my finger |

Yesterday I saw one more 335d with 120k and pipes are clean, so there should be a reason why I have more soot than others. I guess I have to measure the compression in the cylinders to make sure that engine is fine, if compression is good, than it probably because of DPF? What do you think?

Hi,
My 330d had very clean exhaust pipes till 145k km. From 2k km exhausts are soot covered and i don't know from where it's coming. Engine and car drive like a charm anyway. No explainations... Last edited by babyfaby; 10-08-2016 at 06:27 AM.. |

I meet up with Greck the other day and his did have noticeable soot on his pipes. I wiped the inside with my finger and had soot on it, went over to my car and wiped the inside and dint have anything. It may not look like it in the pics but he does have soot in his exhaust

It is probably 330d doesn't have SCR system and I really happy that you don't have it...

Actually the scr shouldn't really impact soot except for maybe catching some in the media, the scr is only meant to convert nox. Soot is dealt with in the dpf and partially I guess in the doc.
