2016 BMW 5 series or 2017 BMW 5 series

I am debating about the 2016 5 series or the 2017 5 series. One is HEAVILY discounted (as in some crazy sale price and even crazier lease price)... or wait and pay premium on the 2017.

Based on current photo the look for the 2017 is obviously better, but not by THAT much.... There's no telling if the new G30 will flop like the old 7.... but that being sad, I rarely get model when I know a newer model is coming down the pipe but the deal is just so darn attractive... I think getting an ACCORD will cost more than the 5 series at this point :P

Any suggestions?

It all depends on what you want. For me personally, I dont think the new G30 is worth getting until 1/2 years of sales. This way BMW can get real feedback and fix it for 2019/2020.I highly recommend the F10

Especially since G30 seems to be more of an evolution than complete redesign. I believe G30 will be better car overall, but crazy sale price is always good. F10 has been aging great, shouldn't be too difficult to get rid of it in 1-2 years or so if you really are itching for "new". Especially if you're willing to pass some of that crazy discount to next owner.

I went ahead and leased a 2016, I figure after 3 years the g30 will be ready for some LCI updates and I'll go from there. I'd like to see it on the market for awhile rather than pay a premium to be "first" in line. Plus I got a crazy deal!

Planning to get an F10 as well. Looking at the tech, design and how the G30 fits more into what a 2016 car would look like, F10 does look old.

Still for a $600-$700 payment with no money down for a nearly fully loaded F10 is a price that is next to impossible to get on a G30 in the next 3 years.

My line of thinking was - all issues in F10 that could be handled without redesign etc. have been 'fixed' and likely the car will be more reliable with lots of feedback and minor improvement over the years.

As practical as F10 seems, once the G30 is on the road, our F10s will not give us that same 'feeling' of 'joy'.

Personally, I'd never by a year 1 new model...Let someone else work the inevitable bugs out and in the interim get a smoking deal on F'10.

Thats what worked for me anyhow. Some people want/need the latest and greatest so if that makes you happiest go for it.

Very personal decision.

Was in the same position. I went with a 2016 due to the huge discount and fantastic lease pricing!

I found an executive demo car with 4k miles, 2016 535d xdrive with Msport and many other packages. Original MSRP was 70k, marked down to about 58k. Add in some incentives, knocked a little off asking, little money down, leased it for 36 months with 12k miles/year, mid 500s payment. Dealers appear to want these off the lot, and will work with you to get you in one. I was very happy with the deal I got, especially as someone a bit younger with very little credit history and a score below average (just for lack of history)

Thanks everyone. Probably will end up with a 528i for 24 months and wait to see how the 2017 (by that time 2019) behaves

Am I the only one that think the new G30 is fugly? I mean FUGLY.

To me it seems like BMW hits the nail on the head every other generation.

The E39 was a handsome design, the E60 was ghey lookiong. The F10 nailed it again, and the G30 makes you wonder wtf they were thinking.

I think the G30 is a bit busy looking. May grow on me, but for now I'm ok my my F10.

I just picked up a '16 535 for a few huge reasons:

- The incentives and prices right now are absolutely stupid good (lease for mid-5s w/tax for a fully loaded model on lot)
- The first year of a new model is not something I'm interested in (I live near BMWNA headquarters, even their staff told me to be cautious when considering the first year model of this car)
- Because of the above, the residuals on the '17 are expected to be as low as 52% for 10k miles. Get ready for a $900/mo. payment.

If I were someone who liked all the various driver assist packages, I would go for the G30. If not, I would grab a great deal on an F10.

If the model has a bunch of issues, I figure I am covered by warranty and say goodbye at the end of the lease. That is assuming I am not just buying with cash.

Either way I would want to see the G30 in person first. Besides a few minor things, I like what I have seen so far.

I would get the F10 because the 2017 is not a major upgrade tbh. For me im moving to a Tesla Model S 2017. Now that tech is some serious stuff especially after the news today about the lvl 5 autonomous vehicle.

It's a nice way to charge $12K for something that won't do anything useful at start - if ever.
