Can't seem to find a definitive answer on this on the forums.

It looks like the 335Ds registered in CA have a 7year/70,000 mile emissions warranty. Would this cover carbon cleaning?

The 7/70 warranty only covers certain emissions components. If you have an emissions component fail due to cbu, then it would be covered, but the cbu cleaning would not be. The on,y emissions components suciptiable to cbu is the egr cooler and valve. But I don't know if they are covered by the 7/70 warranty

SCR and urea tank as far as I know, up to 7years/70K miles. EPA is supposed to offer 8/80 for those. My SCR and urea tank are both on their respective ways out as I have 78K miles on my car. I've contacted my local EPA rep about setting up the replacement and they are acting like they have no idea what i'm talking about.

Only the catalytic converter(s) and the ECU/DDE are covered. The DEF tank won't be covered (except if the dealer gets it goodwilled.)

They won't know what your talking about. Warranty goes through your local BMW dealership.

No. When i asked, my sa said that basically it only covers broken parts. His argument was that none of the parts are actually broken, they're just covered in shit.

7/70 is a california state emissions warranty, and covers lots of stuff. Ive already had 2 mafs, NOx sensors, scr metering valve, scr tank, and a throttle body replaced under emissions warranty. My plan worked perfectly. I didn't buy the normal warranty because i thought everything that would break would be an emissions warranty part or not covered under normal warranty. My car has 67k miles and still hasnt had carbon cleaning.

There is also federal emissions warranty, which covers basically only the cats and ecu. I think you could probably get a dpf out of this because theyre an assembly. Potentially also an scr cat.

Do not expect your service advisor to know what is or is not covered. Big dealerships have a person dedicated to dealing with warranty claims.

Id like to get the carbon cleaned, but have yet to find a dealer i trust to do the job.

Definitely covered under the 7/70 Gold extended warranty

Last year I paid $50 to have the CBU cleanup and two injectors replaced (one faulty, one broke when removing it to do the CBU). Would have been almost $3000 otherwise.

My suggestion, get a second dde, clone it, and tune it with egr code out. That way you can run clean and avoid cbu, but switch to stock for resale or repairs. A dde tune and code our of egr is cheaper and more full proof than a cbu cleaning.

I had my egr cooler replaced in March, I was surprised at how much carbon had already accumulated in it.

I had my egr cooler replaced under warranty
