Best OBD II Scanner

Now that I've gotten my first SES light looks like I need to go ahead and make the OBD scanner purchase that I have been putting off. What does everyone suggest? I am looking at the Carly or possible the Rheingold with the Carly being the most cost effective.

I have Carly and like it. Works great for reading codes and also lets you do some basic coding and data logging. Don't try to cheap out and buy anything other than their latest and greatest adapter - you'll just run into problems.

I have iphone and have to run it over wifi, which can be annoying at times. If you have the option get the Android version that runs over bluetooth. Again, make sure you buy the correct adapter.

I too have carly, but find it buggy and unreliable, and quite slow on my galaxy note 4. Also a lot of features are paid extras. So after struggling with Carly, I went and purchased a Foxwell NT5100 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It will do pretty much anything you want it too for the same price as a fully featured carly with far less bugs.

I also use Carly but on my iPhone. It's works good, and has saved me money from going to a shop trying to diagnose an issue. My last problem with the SES light was the MAF going out. Carly picked it up, but a new MAF for ~$200 and everything was good again.

Overall I'm pleased, however, I'm not too fond of the ridiculous price they charge for the OBD adapter when you start seeing what other OBD adapters are selling for. But whatever. I see it as a one time purchase (I hope) that will save me $$ in the long run.

Thanks for the replies. Went ahead and ordered a Carly. I am new to coding, so I figured it would be the best bet to start out with since it's relatively cheap and appears easy to use.

The paid extras can be annoying but it's still cheaper than taking it to the shop. I've found it's important to keep it updated. They are always fixing bugs and if an update screws things up they are pretty quick to release another in that fixes it. I had to do some more advanced coding so went and got a cable and installed INPA and all the coding tools but for most things Carly is still my go to because it's so much easier to throw in the adapter and check codes from my phone than to haul out the cable and laptop.

Personally the foxwell 510 is more reliable than Carly. Carly has been know to brick frm modules if you don't get the Carly bt adapater. I have both and I'm forever having the Carly software particularly after an upgrade stop working.
