Dog Vs. Bumper... nobody wins :(

OK I hit a dog. Bumper has pretty severe dent in it. I can smell some kind of fluid, maybe antifreeze (can even hear is sizzling). Taking it down to Budds in Oakville tomorrow. The dog ran away even though I hit him dead centre doing about 60 kph... I looked for 30 min to find him or his owner without luck.

Will I need a whole new bumper? Kinda hope so since I'm paying my deductible any way.

I had just washed it... wow it was dirty under the license plate!!!

well he ran pretty good afterwards... I spoke to any one I could find. 5-6 people on the street and nobody knew who the dog belonged to.

I have 2 dogs myself.

Does any one think they would not replace the bumper?

you might be able to puch that one back out...itll have a crease tho. take the bumper off...there are about 4 screws on top and about 8 on the bottom. warm up the bumper with a heat lamp or something of that nature. GregL has done this before and then pop it back out from the inside

damn.. was that dog made of stone?? that lower part of the bumper is curved inward. i would have thought it had more dent resistance than a larger surface area like the actual bumper? it looks like you hit the corner of a concrete pillar

I ran over a squirrel by accident once and was convinced it jammed itself into my suspension, never did find a body though.

I ended up going with a heat gun but the crease around the damage wasn't something I could live with.

i just hope the dog didn't get any internal bleeding...

the animal might look fine right after the accident, but he can pass away real fast if it's internal bleeding.

Well the dog made it home... but I don't know how it's doing. The owners called it in as a hit and run and brought my plate the police station well after I had called it in myself.

As for the size of the dog, it looked like a beagle. Hopefully it's ok and hopefully its owners keep him on a leash from now on. He was chasing a road hockey ball across a 4 lane divided road.

I'm pretty sure you can pop it back out. I ran up on a snow bank (in another car) a few months back, and the bumper was pushed in worse than that, and it can be popped back out without even leaving a crease. You only need to worry about having the paint fatigue on you, and cracks in the plastic where the plastic is fatigued.

Wonder if you could straighten it out a little bit so that a Hartge replica lip can fit right over it...

Some thing doesn't make sense here.....
Your intial post said that you were looking for the owner of the dog and didn't find him. So how did the owner bought your plate. Assuming that you lost the plate at the place of the accident I would assume that being a smart person you will pick up the plate. Not because you want to take the plate from the accident place but no one wants to leave their plate like that on the road because it could fall in to the wrong persons hand. So the bottom line is even if you left the plate at the accident spot how did the owner knew where his dog got hit???? - I am sorry none of this make sense.

Also in your second post you said that you are a dog owner. In your last post you said "Hope fully the dog is OK" I am sure any dogowner/doglover will not say any thing like that.
