I've got a race pipe waiting to be installed as well. I look forward to the increased throttle response. What is the advantage of deleting the swirl flaps?

My flaps were tuned to be open all of the time. I switched to the blanks and observed no difference. Per tuner's recommendation, I left the swirl flap actuator plugged into harness.

To answer your question, I suppose piece of mind to know one of things won't come apart on me. To my knowledge, no North American 335D has had this problem. I say this from the standpoint that I hadn't seen anything from either Diesel board. That isn't official from BMW though.

Nope. Either the swirl flaps or the blanks. They both bolt in at the exact same spot. I think pictures are going to be helpful here.

The above is a you tube video showing how to remove intake but its for a European 530D. Skip to about the 8 minute point just as intake is removed. At that time point, they show how to take swirl flaps off and replace with the blanking plates. Hope this clears up your confusion.

Did you specifically ask to have the flaps tuned to stay open or is that already part of the tune? You have the JR tune don't you?

after watching the video do not use sandpaper to clean up surfaces... any and I mean any bit of silica that makes its way down to the cylinder can f up an engine real quick... there is no embedability in a modern diesel... use a scraper....
Also use engine oil on the swirl flap o-rings.. the way he did it its possible to pinch an o-ring.

Yep, always use clean motor oil on the seals and the surface the seal is engaging. I only wanted PR to see where swirls come out of and blanking plates go back into. I didn't watch after 9 min point. I'll go back and see what you are commenting on.

Yes JCT1, JR but no I didn't ask for flaps to be tuned out. I just found out after the fact, stage 2 race.

EDIT: yes, I agree that using sand paper there was silly.

My egr is currently disabled and I'm either planning on getting it blocked by plates or should I go with the actual race pipe ? I'm in Canada as well so buying the American race pipes does add up prices after conversion. Is there much of a difference or very minor

Ok Amigos atwal187 has my videos in case anyone wants to see. First of all intake was cleaned and BARELY any soot on it as well as the throttle egr pipe was clean , we were so impressed that we couldn't believe it, my mechanic went in Youtube and saw some of the cars with soot in their systems.

The car runs a smoother than before , turbo lag is minimal as in before, as far as mpg I cannot tell you guys yet. The power is there but transitions smoothly than before. Atwal187 load the videos when you can gracias

Thanks cuda I called my mechanic, he corrected me , he stated that the red hose (OEM) was going bad and the flange had broken(reason being I lost 100 whp), but he did advice me to get the drivers side hose which he states is in bad condition. Hope this clears up and corrected misinformation.

Ok amigos latest UPDATE, no dyno runs performed been to busy painting my properties before I move to DR.

Ok the scoop on the EGR race pipe, very well made by Andrew and his crew, fits perfectly . Now the bad part is that fuel economy has decreased in the city(I think its me with that damn heavy right foot of mines) in the highway the car runs so smooth as it was an OEM part. Fuel economy in the hwy seems to increase anywhere from 3-5 MPGs (problem AGAIN my damn heavy foot).

Car has minimal turbo lag and jumps (remember this) LIKE A TIGER lol. Anyway I really cant determine the overall mpg since I race a lot but will try my darnest to stay calm. From 40 mph to 120 this thing is something WAYYY diferrent than it used to be. With all the rain we've had over the last month almost 1 foot of rain and the roads full of pot holes Im not going to risk ANOTHER damaged wheel.

With that said Im still unable to upload from my cell the videos ATWAL went MIA on me after I sent him the videos. Anyone willing I'll send them thru whatsapp to you. Gracias
