Black wheels..?

Ok - test fitting some black wheels on the Crimson Red 335d, thoughts on the set - up?

These are not the wheels I am using, just a test fit to see how I like the color.

Really hard to tell without the actual wheels you plan on using. I think gloss black will look fine on your car, but the wheels in your picture look tacky as hell. And the red stripe on the wheels doesn't help.

What's the actual wheel you are looking at?

Gross. Black wheels look good with a bbk. That's it imho. And the people who spray paint their wheels black look desperate and awful.

I am also not a fan of the pin stripe wheel to body color on any wheel. I think black and outright chrome are personal opinion and often more polarizing. I also think spray painting is dumb.

No matter what, do what you like, I am an advocate of that. Don't know how many people have harped on me for the fact I drive a BMW. Kudos for having an awesome car, who cares about the rest.

Pic in the OP are not the wheels I'll use - I'm actually thinking of black or a dark gunmetal metallic for the OEM wheel.

Pic of the OEM wheel.

Bronze, titanium, gunmetal. Black was cool in 1996. Now its as cool on a bmw as cragars.

Agree. Keep it stock. Love the red, so rare on the e90.

Around my area, the murdered out black cars are all Mennonites.

I have the same wheels on a Space Gray. They're OEM Style 195s. When I become not broke I think I'm going to get them powdercoated gloss black. Screw what everyone else thinks. I think these wheels look very nice in gloss black. For now I'm rolling with the dipped look because I can't afford a powdercoat. That being said, I think your car looks better with just the stock silver/chrome look. Really compliments the red. Again, do what you want. It's your car.

So I've had numerous color wheels on many cars...and I still enjoy black wheels and think they look great HOWEVER IMHO on a euro car, to my eye, if you're going to go black go gloss...and by all means IMHO do not do the stripe / I think gloss black can pick up your blacked out window trim and maybe a grill and diffuser etc

Thanks for all the feedback.

Just as a reminder - the wheels in the OP are not the wheels I'll use, and I have absolutely no interest in a red stripe wheel!

I think gloss black m sport wheels still look amazing... I went this route for my d relatively cheap. Bought a new OEM (m) set for under $650 and got them powder coated Sherwin Williams gloss black for $200. Black on red I'm not sure, but murdered out still lives...

Mine looks similar to this great example.

kydiesel35 - I love the black on black look too.

My 335d has the shadowline trim - and I blacked out the badge on the trunk, painted the the lower silver bumper grills black, and changed out the kidney grills for solid black. The side turn markers are also blacked out (Smoke)....

I've decided to go with the dark gunmetal metallic. When I get them back on the car - I'll post here and bump this thread. I can always change colors later if I am unhappy...

+1 for the black wheels, without the red stripe.

I wish I could have found a red 335d, such a good looking car.

Let me know if you ever want to part with your wheels

Funny story, but my son and I looked at ahale2772's car at dealer 1 mile away from my home (small town, 1hr outside NYC) a day or two before he bought it. Too bad I already had my white D. That said, your space grey is really sharp on an m-sport!
