Stereo sounds blown, but is it?

When I play the radio, the speakers sound relatively normal...no distortion at either high or low frequencies..I've had no problems using the radio as I've had with my iPod.

But when I use my iPod hooked up to the aux jack, there are some songs that will sound just fine, and others which will sound distorted on the low notes and high notes (a fuzzy sound). Also, the speakers will sometimes cut out completely right in the middle of a song, almost like someone lowered the volume very quickly.

It's quite a strange problem, and I am leaning towards the thought that they might be blown. But I also think that there may be a loose wire somewhere in the connection. The connection to my iPod is fine.

I had somewhat of a similar problem. One suggestion made to me was to put the EQ setting on the ipod to off. This fixed my problem.

I've played with the EQ a bunch, no go.

Do you perhaps have some music sampled at a lower bit-rate or just crap recordings?

Most of my songs were bought off of iTunes or uploaded from a CD...so they aren't the crappy Limewire quality..I've noticed the distortion with the iTunes purchased and CD uploaded songs.

+1 If you can't use an adapter to convert the docking port to line-out, make sure the EQ is off when using the headphone jack.

Hm..I'll try this..but I doubt it will fix my problem.

I mostly play dance/trance/techno, and these songs have naturally LOTS of bass..I don't even add any bass from the settings, and it still sounds bassy.

I had the EQ on dance...I'll try to turn it off to see if it helps.

If the volume on the ipod is high, the quality on the BMW sound will be pathetic. If you have the volume on the ipod around half or just above and turn the volume on the car up.... ...perfecto!

EDIT: I dont think it does much with the EQ. But, it might.

The ipod's volume issue is only relevant if you're connecting the ipod to the car using the headphone jack...however, if you're connecting the ipod to the car by using a cable that hooks onto the bottom of the ipod, the volume setting on the ipod is not going to matter.

Does the iPod connector come with the iPod? I'm not exactly sure what connector you guys are talking about.

It comes with the car provided the factory was told to install it.

Here's a pic of the cable I bought off Ebay. It works great and you only have one cable coming out of your center console to play and charge your Ipod.

For all the problems mentioned, IMO thats just the way the stereo in this car is LOL. Unfortunately the standard and logic stereos leave much to be desired.

I have actually resorted to putting the sound ALL the way in the back because the highs are way to high, and the bass is too punchy with much to be desired in the mid range. Just my experience.

Believe it or not, it seems like this method of using the fader has made the sound more bearable

I use this device. It does not charge your ipod, but it does circumvent the internal equalizer and allows clean digital data out. I use it for many applications that allow a 3.5mm input. Could not say enough good things about this product.

If you don't like some of the highs and lows can't you adjust it with the crazy equalizer? There's so many setting on the premium stereo it's insane.

I have the standard stereo, so EQ is not an option.
