Passenger Side Seat Belt Warning

Hey folks,

I have a m-sport and when it gets hot, the seat belt warning indicator goes off. I was told by my service advisor it happens because the leather on the passenger side doesn't get worn in as much as the driver side....thus since it is tight, the "switch matt" inside the seat gets closed and the indicator goes off, even when no one is present.

Has anyone found a way to "wear in" or stretch out the passenger seat bottom so this doesn't happen. I was thinking I could drive around my mother in law all the time, but that might result in divorce.

Barbells? Moonshine?

Happy to hear anyone's thoughts and suggestions on this annoying problem!

Most service advisors don't know what they are talking about and make stuff up. I only know 1 good S A after trying to use differnt S A's at multiple dealers. There is probably a intermittent issues with the seat sensor. A guy I know has had codes for his m-sport pop up for his passenger airbag.

One would think us gulf coast guys would see this happen way more often than a California guy. I think you're getting smoke blown up your "exhaust port".

That said, I don't use my car often but when I do there is a passenger in the front seat most of the time.

You can turn off seat belt warnings with Carly for BMW.

This is more common than you think. My 2005 X3 has the same issue. Only when left outside on hot days. I just leave the passenger belt buckled.

Hi,
My passenger seat belt warning doesn´t turn on when someone is seating on it, the driver seat works fine I tried to see under the seat looking for a bypass unit but I couldn´t find it. Do you know if there are some cars that doesn´t get passenger seat belt sensor or warning?

My car is a 2010, 325i, Business, E90, could it be that it is not included in my vehicule? It comes with Navi, DVD player a lot of upgrades but for example it doesn´t have cruise control, maybe it lacks of passenger warning light or sensor.

ANY IDEAS?

For quite a while, I've been having the problem of the phantom passenger causing the "fasten seat belt" warning and chime to go non-stop, regardless of who or what is or isn't in the front passenger seat. At first, it did this only intermittently and during warm or hot weather. Over time, it became consistently defective and annoying. Short story is this: took it into the stealership, and the sensor mat inside the bottom cushion is cracked and needs replacing. Cost: over $1,000. No thank you.

So, I ordered this short extender https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005J6JRMM/ , plugged it into the passenger seat belt receiver, and viola, no more annoying chime. $8.98 fix. Passenger side airbag sensor turns on and off when it should, so I'm happy.

No, all BMW vehicles in 2010 model year had the sensor and warning chime. Yours is, for whatever reason, malfunctioning.

Funny, I need this for my dog. Was fine when she was a puppy and below the weight limit but now she just sits there setting off the chime

Hey, nobody laugh at this. I used to do this too. Accomplished two things: turned off the %(@& chime and vented some frustration. But then the thing fought back and kept chiming even when I kicked its ass.

LOL i had a similar problem once and my SA said that the seat leather was "dried out", tried to get me to buy brand new leather, think it was $600/seat. Eventually got the passenger seat sensor replaced under warranty. It sounds stupid, but all of my problems were caused by something UNDER the seat pushing up on the sensor. Have you checked there?
