Heating/Cooling settings Presets
Ive always thought with each of my BMWs that there should be a couple Presets for the system, after all this is a Luxury automobile and there should be every option possible. You know, like one button for heat and one for cool set to your normal preference, every morning i have to change it
From the A/C on, center vent, fan speed, air temp, to A/C off, footwell vent, fan speed, air temp... would'nt it be nice to just hit A or B instead of the three or 4 buttons? Using Auto is helpfull but only goes about halfway, you still have to turn off the A/C when using the heat and of course you need to adjust the temp. What do you guys think? Ive even written to BMW but never got any reply

I don't ever touch the HVAC settings - other than minor adjustments from time to time.
I usually have it set to automatic @ 70 degrees with A/C on. Every so often in the summer, or a very sunny winter day, I'll lower it to 66 or 68 degrees. That's honestly about it. Outside of that, it's just turning on/off heated or cooled seats as needed. But I never change the airflow/vents. I wonder if there's something you can do with your preset buttons? I know they can be used to recall iDrive settings. For example, I have some of the presets used for navigation while others used for radio stations. I've never tried to use them for other types of iDrive settings, but if there's an iDrive screen where you change the air flow (I think there is?), I wonder if one of the preset buttons can be used to store your changes there. Worth a shot.

For me Full Auto mode, both zone temperatures set to 20C, intensity set to the lowest setting. Face vent thumbwheel set to mid position. Run like that from cold or hot starts, summer through winter. Only on really hot days to I need to hit the MAX button for a initial faster cool down. Then back to full auto. Face vents (thumbwheel) may get a tweak according to the season, (or how I feel). Set them to cold in summer months. For me, climate control is unobtrusive, a set and leave to do its job function. I personally wouldn't see the benefit, or need, of a dedicated menu button. |

No need to turn the AC off to heat.

Yes i think your right, i did a little more research on that point..
I was just thinking old school about running the a/c compressor needlessly. Where i live in So Cal our weather is nice, but it changes quite a bit from day to night in the winter months, theres a swing of about 40 degrees sometimes, now for instance....... So it seems like im always Efing with the controls.. i guess i was just interested in other peoples opinions...i will try to rely more on the Auto setting Thanks Also was so tired of how crappy the 320i is compared to the Honda thread geez....really

I work for company in Detroit which happens to do many of the HVAC and climate systems for BMW. I do like the idea of pre programmed heat/ cool settings. especially for those that live in climates like Michigan where it varies so much. However talking with my Teams, there just isn't the demand for Auto Manufacturers to invest in the development to put into vehicles. BMW invests primarily in the drivability of vehicles not the "bells and whistles". I do however believe Lincoln has similar user preference settings. If you wanna buy a Lincoln...

My LS has heated and cooled seats! I really miss them... I wouldn't consider Lincoln as long as they keep making nothing but nose-heavy FWD (their AWD doesn't count as the engine faces the wrong way and they are still front-wheel biased) appliances.

I was curious if anyone leaves the "auto air circulation" on at all times... anyone switch to the "M" manual for only air ciculation inside cabin?

My car fogs up if I use M for a long period and the air starts to smell stale(the one time I forgot to go back to Auto). This is especially true if it is raining or snowing.

Not an option.
It is what used to be called the fan speed buttons. They are now a series of pre-programmed settings for the automatic fan speeds. Each sensitivity button changes the low and high speed of the automatic fan and everything in-between. It's in the manual.

You can easily code your vehicle to remember your preferences. I rarely, if ever touch thermostat or any of the cold weather package options.

Yeah, it's called your key since it remembers your last settings anyway.

Agreed. I was specifically talking about the last setting of the HVAC because that's what this thread is about, OP having to fiddle with it too much. The key remembers how you last left it but I never took into consideration that anybody would even want to start their car without the AC or HVAC active which is not a key option.
