New 335D owner & build thread

Hello everyone! Just picked up a 11 335D and thought I would introduce myself. Found the car in FL with 97k mikes. Sport, premium, adaptive headlights, comfort access, navi, & heated seats. I flew down to FL 5 days ago and drove it back 650 miles to Raleigh, NC. 1 owner vehicle that just had the CBU done under CPO. Maintenance history is also spot on. It needs some minor clean up, but it's very clean for the mileage.

I also own a 13 X5D that's extremely well equipped and a 01 cummins 3500 that makes 1100 torques. And I just sold a 11 335i M sport with a ton of mods that made 500whp.

Anyway, here is a pic of the new car at the used car lot.

Finally got a free evening to work on it tonight. I forgot a few pics so these will have to do.

First order of business was to fix the peeling start/stop button.

Disassembled the switch and painted the ring with SEM exterior trim paint. Looks good as new.

Then It was time to service the trans.
ZF trans pan, mech sealing sleeve, and valve body seal.

I had a lot to drink so I needed to take a leak.....

Forgot to take a pic of the new forge boost pipe, but here is the old one.

EGR plates are also in. No pic of those. DDE is also tuned, no pic of that either.

It was a fun drive home tonight.... a very fun drive. The instant torque is intoxicating. It's a totally different animal than my 335i. I might add meth. I have a kit in my garage. We shall see. More to come as parts come in tomorrow....

Yeah. Free time is limited with a 2.5 year old and a constant honey do list, lol. Took about 5 hours to knock all of that out after work. Time to go to bed, lol.

Did you leave the Swirl flap actuator plugged into harness? I chose to do this for fear of codes. I also have blanking plates on my intake. My tuner thought codes would happen if I completely removed the actuator.

Thanks! I'm a BMW master technician so it went pretty smoothly. Found a few issues from whoever the hack was that did the CBU. But they are fixed now.

It's disconnected. Running a BPC flash and was told I could remove it.

I forgot to mention that the guys at BPC were extremely helpful getting the parts and tune in a rush. Great customer service as usual from the team at BPC!

5 hours for all of that? Sweet holy hell, I'm amazed. Did you have access to a lift to do all of this? Were you the only one working on it? Congrats on the car!

Car is on a lift in the pictures, even so 5hrs is a crazy pace and nothing gave any issues. Absolutely doable, but damn good time.

I'm wondering what you found. I'm the opposite of a master-tech but I'll be attempting the CBU soon. If you don't mind sharing I might keep from making a few hack mistakes myself.

I had my apprentice help drop the exhaust and re install it. Kind of a 2 person job on a lift. The rest I did myself.

Wrongs bolts on the EGR. One was stripped and I had to repair the threads. Cracked crankcase vent hose on the valve cover with a zip tie holding it in place. Air box was loose on the MAF. Rear NoX sensor hand tight. Missing random hardware. Thank god the intake ports were clean. Nothing terrible. Just irritating seeing this on a professional level.

Didn't get much done today. Cleaned and conditioned the steering wheel. Added M3 steering wheel trim. M Performance auto shift knob. Installed a new front brake pad sensor, oil and filter change, and set the cbs to the correct forecast. I'll get some pics tomorrow.

Got a few more things done today. Brake flush, air filter, fuel filter, and new fender turn signals. I was hoping to get my combox installed but I need to get a copy of my VO in .xml format. I may just pay someone to do coding remotely since today was my last day at BMW. A few pics....

Old/dirty steering wheel

Cleaned the leather with soapy water then immediately treated it with leatherique. Added a new M3 steering wheel trim. I'm very pleased with how it came out!

Old shift knob

New M Perf knob. Still debating on what to do with the shift boot.

Old faded fender turn signals.

New

The drivers headlight is near new. Passenger is original and the FL sun killed it. I got a new one coming from eBay. Should be here next week. Then it needs a good detail, wheel refinish, and it should be done for a bit... or maybe I'll add meth? Time will tell, lol.

Update! No pics, but I got the combox installed. I had a friend code it for me but he couldn't get "connected drive" to work. So I need to do some research on that. I'm going to download the software needed to code it myself and pick up a icom setup.

Also replaced the water pump, thermostat, and alternator belt. I forgot the A/C belt was a stretch belt so I have the Lisle tool coming to install that this week.

Where are you guys buying braided vacuum hose? I really don't want to pay $20 meter for it if possible. Any cheaper alternatives?

Good to see you back at it! Just wondering if you also replaced the harmonic balancer? That's a common issue on these cars that you haven't mentioned. Looks like you're really making this car a beast. Keep us posted on progress. Ever considered getting lighter weight wheels since yours clock in at over 25 pounds a piece?

Thanks! Mine has some small cracks starting. I'm waiting on the upgrade part to come out soon. I'm running non runflat tires which really lightens things up. No plans on going aftermarket for wheels. Every "cheap" set of wheels I have purchased have cracked. OEM 18" BMW wheels are pretty stout and I like the looks of mine. Might swap over to a M3 rep or M sport bumpers and M perf side skirts soon. Once the struts let go I'll give it a mild drop. All stuff down the road though. Trying not to go too crazy on this one, lol.
