There is no reason to replace them until they fail. Generally speaking they work or they don't, although secondary windings can fail and produce a moderate misfire the DME is unlikely to set a CEL for.

At the shop I work in we generally recommend replacing all of the coils when a single fails and the mileage is above 75k, simply to save on labor costs. Its cheaper in the long run to visit the job a single time than to deal with repeated failures and full pop labor to revist. We often see coils go out in succession following the first failure.

Good to know. I always thought it should be replaced around 60k. Thanks.

Stuck,

For those of us running tunes+E85, would you suggest any other preventative maintenance around the 50k mark? I was thinking of doing a walnut blasting and changing out the plus, maybe even potentially the coils. I'd like to get your thought on this.

Thanks.

50k miles is the acceptable factory service interval on the plugs. If you are pushing more boost and or E85 you'll want to service them sooner, say every 30k or so (IMO) and upgrade to a colder plug like the N20 one, gapped at .018 - .020

On the coils, replace them if you want, but really no sense doing so unless you have a misfire.

I've cars with over 200k km on original coils. When I changed them out, I did not noticed any difference. IMO I would only change them out if they start to show signs of misfiring.
