BSI - BMW Service package

Hi guys,

I am getting my M240 in next 4 to 5 days. The dealer is trying to sell me their service package.

This is what they offer. Can't get any discount, Can't get it for free. Do you think this is worth paying for? What is typical service cost and how often do I have to service the car? Any ideas?

Thanks for the input.

5yrs/80,000km $1340 (fixed, inc gst)

BSI Basic package includes;
-Engine oil change
-Replacement of microfilter, fuel filter, air filter and spark plugs
-Brake fluid change
-Vehicle checks

Do you work for a large company ? If I recall correctly, if you - or even your spouse ( if you have one ) - work for a company that is on their register, they will include.

I always run my cars through my compan, so they are purchased on CHP. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Worth exploring though

They mentioned this. Checked both of our companies and none were on the list. I work for a start up in US and my partner for a small boutique company. No luck there..

Depends if they're any good bmw specialists near where you live/work...

Personally I hate getting my car serviced at dealers, generally just an apprentice working on your car, it's hard to schedule your desired time (if it's a big dealership aka BMW sydney 3-4 weeks in advance).

Depends if you plan to keep the car for 5 years?

From memory I read BMW servicing schedule, they don't even change oil that often (someone have to correct me)

Oil changes are only done every 25,000km on the official schedule. Any extra will be charged.

Is it? I think the computer on the car is based around 2 years/30k km.

25000km or 30000km is ridiculous! Oil change every 2 years? Wtf!

I had my car serviced at a BMW specialist they changed oil for first service and it was still cheaper than BMW without! What a rip

Yeah, I've got some Motul 8100 X-Cess 5w-40 on its way to me and a filter to do a swap. No way I'm leaving it till 30k to get changed :/

boghbogh Shop around a bit. I sent requests to multiple BMW dealerships and got different prices from each.

You also have the first year to decide if you want a service package, so no rush. I'm looking at it again before my first service.

Some sample quotes from the dealerships I contacted:

Dealership 1
5 Year or 80,000kms whichever comes first-
BASIC - $1690 INC GST
PLUS - $3450 INC GST

5 Year or 60,00kms whichever comes first-
BASIC - $1420 INC GST
PLUS - $2295 INC GST

Dealership 2
The service basic package would be $2384 for 5yr / 80,000km
or the plus package would be $7736 for 5yr / 80,000km

Dealership 3
5 year 80,000km - 1240.00
5 year plus 80,000km- 3227.00
5 year 100,000km- 1613.00
5 year plus 100,000km -3557.00

Has anyone kept their cars long enough to do the math as to whether extending the BSI is worth it? I've decided to keep my m135i for prob another couple of years. Just had my last included service (4yr) under the BSI that I had included with my car. They've quoted me $1170 to extend the BSI (basic) until 10yrs. I won't keep the car that long, but it is transferrable to the new owner.

After emailing some non-dealer BMW workshops, quotes range from $270 for a service without oil change (like every interim one at BMW - although I always change the oil yearly) to $460-500 for service with oil change.
