Ohio (or midwest) F8x owners that daily year round?
Hi all, I live in central Ohio and just wanted to get opinions from those of you in the same/similar region that daily your M3/M4. I've read through all the older winter/snow threads and I'm sure this debate comes up on all popular RWD car forums, but really wanted to hear it from people in the same area. This is only my 2nd year living in Ohio and both winters have been quite mild. Plenty of cold dry days, decent rain, very little snow. With the proper winter tires/wheels and good driving habits, would an M3 make sense as a year-round daily driver? Mind you I also have two kids so safety is a concern too. Dunno why, but part of me feels almost "irresponsible" to have this as my only car in this part of the country. Is that a silly thought? Again, I used to live on the west coast where having a car like this year round wouldn't have gotten a second thought, so maybe I'm just not used to the winter mentality of throw on some good snow shoes and be careful?
Any and all input appreciated, thanks. |

You won't have a problem unless you need to climb steep roads on the day of a snowstorm. I'm running 19" Nokian Hakka's |

my past rides were performance sedans with RWD in Chicago and with a dedicated set of wheels and winter tires, you'll be fine.

The whole rwd in snow fear and awd is a must is all hype. Have a dedicated set of snows and you will be fine. Think of it this way, most people who have awd cars run all seasons and they think they are bullet proof in snow, awd is all fine and dandy for traction, but when is comes to braking, I want snows on my car, not seasons, awd isn't gonna help you brake any quicker, THATS what really matter when it's slick out.

Daily driver all year every year with the past four M3's. Snow is no more a problem in this car than with any others. With the right tires, and judicious use of gearing and braking, there's nothing to be concerned about with these cars under any driving conditions

I appreciate all the reassuring feedback!
I only recently moved to Ohio from a warmer climate 2 years ago...have had AWD the past two (mild) winters but always with snow tires! I have a down payment on the first 2018 allocation for an M3 once available...excited to join you guys! |

We traded PMs and I just thought of one more piece of info to share that helped me.
If you recall I daily my M3 in Columbus and have three kids. Go on YouTube and watch videos of rear wheel drive cars equipped with winter tires. Like I said in my PM...I would take my M3 with winter tires over my Jeep with all season tires during the winter. I'd actually take it over any car if the others have all season tires. Have you placed an order yet?

Been doing it my whole life. Only doing winters starting in 2000 on my SL and never had problems. Good winters are better than great all seasons.
