Changed my belt! Soo easy!

Today I decided to change my belt I had a oil filter housing leak that I decided to fix myself. Very easy but time consuming. Oil had leaked on to the belt and the belt developed a nasty squeal. Long story short I was able to swap it on my n55 e92 in about 15 minutes. Very easy to get to I just had to buy a breaker bar and a torx 60 for the tensioner. I hear the dealer charges 2 hours labor what a rip off.

Probably that 2hr charge includes replacing the Belt Tensioner & Idler Pully - which, depending on your mileage, you should have prolly done when you replaced the belt - even with replacing both of those it doesn't take 2 hrs...

Yea I'm sure replacing those two things wouldn't take more than additional 20min provided you have the right tools. I also don't have an oil cooler so I have a lot of room to work with

I created a DIY for the N54, but not sure....on N55, but recommend replacing Belt, Tensioner and Both Upper and Lower Pulleys.

Now I am curious, why you replaced your engine?

Bought the car 3 weeks later a leaking fuel injector caused detonation and one of my pistons went to the oil pan. 2 months later new engine straight from Germany

Why replace the pulleys, not really considered a wear part...

Not a Mechanic by any means.
You are probably right, but tried looking up a DIY when I was tackling this, and at that time it came up as a replacement item.
My Belt was moving on the upper pulley approx 1/4 to 1/3 inch.

So, i did not want to risk it and decided to replace all.
It was $26 more....so....no brainer there.

New engine 9000mi ago and leaky oil filter housing gaskets already?
Did they replace a complete new engine or block and pistons only?
Pulley bearings on these motors tend to wear quickly and if you've had an oil filter housing leak and repaired it, chances are all that brake cleaner you used to degrease the soiled areas has also found its way into the supposedly sealed pulley bearings so you end up with a new noise afterwards. All of mine have a bit of play but the belt is only shimmying about 1-2mm at the moment.

If the belt jumps then it will get eaten by the engine. It wraps around the harmonic balancer and pushes in the front main seal
