Drive mode going to Comfort on its own?

Can the drive mode switch itself back to comfort after you flick it up into sport?

Was surprised a few days ago when I thought I was driving in Sport, but turned out to be comfort. Didn't shut off the engine in between.

Maybe I just forgot - switch has worked fine since. But assuming that's not the case, could it be an electrical gremlin of some sort? ZF8 M235i has about 33.5K miles.

If you get a low tire or other major code it will lock into comfort. Did temps drop enough to maybe trigger low warning then tires warmed up bringing it back above threshold?

Ah right I remember reading that. No, didn't see any low pressure warning - temp was pretty warm outside and tires had good pressure.

Has the check engine light come on? If there is any engine/tire pressure/chassis malfunction the car defaults into comfort.
What does your 'check control' menu say?

I've had the same thing happen on two occasions which I can recall. No warnings, errors, nothing.

Weird, so it changed drive modes on you just out of the blue?

As far as I can tell, yes. There's certainly been times when I've found myself in comfort mode thinking I was in sport, but most of those occasions I can't be 100% certain I remembered to switch to sport on startup.

However, on one roadtrip, I found myself in comfort 10 minutes or so into the drive so I switched to sport (thinking I forgot). Half an hour later or so, I found myself back in comfort. I KNOW I had changed to sport. Well, I switched back, and sure enough, I eventually found myself back in comfort mode. Put it back in sport a third time and it stayed there for the last hour of the drive. I have no clue why it changed on me those two times. That was about two months ago now. It hadn't happened in the previous 5 months since the car was new, nor in the 2 months since.

Weird, did you get a message in idrive that your driving mode changed?

Not that I know of. It's not like I constantly look at iDrive, but I'd say I look at it every few minutes or so (almost every time a new song comes on). There was definitely no error that required confirmation. It's possible something came up that cleared itself, but even though I'm not looking directly at it, I think I'd likely notice if the screen changed without me doing it; it's pretty hard to miss even when you're not looking directly at it.

So I ran a diagnostic with Carly Pro about a week ago and no errors reappeared after clearing the faults. I'm guessing if something was weird with the drive modes, the diagnostics should have picked it up.

Do you have adaptive? This happened to me a couple of times during break in. I have adaptive. I chalked it up to either the physical button acting up (as we have a different button installed with adaptive) or something about being in break in still. Maybe the car reverted back to comfort for some reason because it was still in break in mode? I dont know...

Would've helped to check the date. Lol. Thank you. I won't expect a response.
