340i sport cat

Anyone know if the 340i sport cat will fit on the 240i? Since the cars share so much in common, I wonder if it will.

The part numbers on realoem are different leading me to think not. However, I was thinking the same thing as you that they are interchangeable. If anything, purchase one from a company that has a return policy incase it doesn't fit.

Are we talking about downpipes with sport cats? If so yes a 340 DP will fit on a 240

Now I have to wait and see which one doesn't generate a CEL.

Have you checked out the HJS Catted DP Fabspeed sells? Pricy, but they advertise no CEL and they meet Euro 6 emission standards.

I saw that - was waiting to see if Fabspeed releases a 200 cell - like they did for the M235i.

That is pricey... I've only come across this offering https://www.x-ph.com/evolution-racew...-440-downpipe/ for a catted DP. That lists for quite a bit less than hjs.

I had a Mishimoto catted J-pipe for my 15 WRX. It made a huge difference in sound and throttle response (with a tune) compared to when I had the tune with the OEM J-pipe.

no problem... now a question for you... from what I've read/researched the JB4 will suppress the CEL when using a cattless DP. Assuming there would be no CEL when using the Evolution catted DP.

With the catted DP assuming (again) there would be less of a performance increase, but still one nonetheless and more sounds from the turbo. The Mishi J-pipe I had you could hear the turbo spool up and down noticeably.

I'm still waiting on my M240, but I'm already starting to accumulate pieces for it

If you want to hear the turbo, all you need is the CAI on the 240. JB4 map1 makes the turbo even more noticeable. Catless downpipe imo just made the burbles more noticeable since I had the CAI and JB4 already.

Sport car is more performance than stock since it's still less restrictive (less cells for exhaust to pass through). However that still doesn't promise no CEL. Yes, JB4 will suppress the CEL with a sport or catless DP. Been running catless with JB4 for about 2-3k miles now and never had a single CEL.

There is no guarantee of no CEL with catted DP

Honestly in terms of performance, gains on stock turbo will be the same whether you you go sport cats or catless

Yes, definitely cheaper, but if you are running no tune or a Dinan tune the HJS is about the only catted DP that promises no CEL, so really the only option right now if you go that route. That is if it holds up to its claim. Just something else to consider.
