BMW at Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, Including 8 Series Concept Public Debut
BIMMERPOST NEWS BMW at Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, Including 8 Series Concept Public Debut Press Release BMW Group presents spectacular concept vehicles. At the launch of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2017, the BMW Group presented two spectacular concept vehicles on the shores of Lake Como. They conveyed fascinating perspectives on the future of individual mobility. The BMW Concept 8 Series is the precursor to a luxurious sports coupé that will already be presented in the marketplace next year. The BMW Group uses this coupé to give a vision of a sports car combining uncompromising dynamic performance with modern luxury. The study continues the successful tradition of large coupés from BMW and interprets classic design attributes in a new language of form. This is expressed in clear and precise line contours and powerful choreography of surfaces. The BMW Motorrad Concept Link is presented as a vision for all-electric urban mobility. The study is a means of transport and communication platform powered by an electric motor and inspired stylistically by the BMW Motorrad Vision NEXT 100. The design of the BMW Motorrad Concept Link breaks the bounds of established conventions. Right from the start, the vehicle concept was based on the technical attributes of the electric motor and it offers ideal enablers for agile handling in urban traffic and contemporary functionality. New opportunities for digital networking between vehicle, driver and the surrounding environment are created with the innovative control concept.

It's a beautiful place to be. I just returned from Italy late last night and attended the event at Lake Como.
And the 8 Series Concept is definitely interesting to view in the metal. |

A 2-seater Z8 would look great with design cues from this concept aswell.
The production 8er will look great for sure..i just wish it or other model like the Z8 could keep the exotic and distinctive look of this concept, instead of the more "normal" look of the production 8er. I know pedestrian regulations suck, but maseratis and other makers are able to keep the front this low in production guise, so why cant BMW. I found this concept so stunning it makes me sad to see it tonned down for production, where the i8 was way more outlandish and made it. Still kudos for BMW for designing this..theres hope that future models will borrow from this instead of looking as generic and conservative as they do now. |

I like it! The side shot with the mist behind it is a screen saver! Love the 850i vert as well... shame they didn't make that!

Random thoughts...
I must say the front end which I though was the a bit challenging is starting to grow on me and the setting of this car in the outdoors has somehow positively contributed. I really hope the final version is carries the visual drama to the customers.
Still think the interior is a bit plain but also like the idea of simplicity. One thing I can't understand, at least from a space point of view, is the how it is supposed to compete with the rear seats of the S coupe and Bentley. It looks a bit cramped and basic there. |

I saw in one of the videos of the unveiling that the concept car's doors open by swiping one's hand in the area where conventional door handles would be (assuming one is carrying the key). I suspect that is unlikely to make it to the production vehicle, but it's a slick evolution of the comfort access feature on current cars.

So, how many cars do I have to buy or lease in order to be invited to one of these things?
I am on #6...what's the magic number? Car looks better in these pics than is some of the earlier ones I saw - would be interesting to see some different wheel and color combos.
