BMW M Performance rear spoiler vs stock M240i spoiler
Does anyone know if the optional carbon BMW M Performance rear spoiler is any taller or different than the stock M240i rear spoiler aside from painted vs carbon?

Thanks! The BMW site suggests to run the front lip too so as to not disrupt the handling characteristics, but to me it seems like it is probably still too small to make any real difference. I really don't want to use the front lip because of parking blocks, curbs, winter, etc.
To anyone using this, do you think it really matters to run the front lip too? Just a ploy for BMW to sell you both? Car's a little tail happy anyway. |

Whatever you say man. The website often has incorrect information. It's your car have at it and do what you want.
Would suggest at the very least you speak with your parts department.

I am sure it is good to have both if you drive regularly in excess of 100 mph. As this is likely not the case, don't bother.

I would base my decision on looks in which case I would get both. |

The aero balance thing from BMW is no doubt a CYA move, and far more important for Europeans who actually have a chance to drive their cars legally at 150 mph. For track use, a front splitter makes a noticeable difference. I had a chance years ago to drive a couple Lotus Elises on a track back to back, one equipped with a splitter and the other without. Man, so much more planted through the high-speed sweepers. A much more solid and locked down feeling.
Remember the Audi TT situation years ago? Seems they were flying off the Autobahns on a semi-regular basis. Doesn't help that the TT's body shape tends to encourage lift. Audi's response was to fit a rear spoiler and soften up the bushings of the lower front control arms to dumb down the steering a little bit. Seemed to fix the problem. |

Yeah, I test-drove an M235i for three days (long story) fitted with a front splitter and I hated worrying about damaging it on a concrete parking stop. I've mentioned this before, but I think the splitter actually takes away from the styling character of the car...the front is so distinctive in stock form with the central intake opening and what I call the "fangs" sticking down on the sides. The splitter makes it all a straight line.

I have both fitted but I really can't see either making much difference to the aerodynamic performance at normal road speed, for me they are simply cosmetics (if expensive cosmetics)
