Wireless Phone Charger in M2

When I was doing the specs of my M2, I was going to get the smartphone connectivity package but it mainly consisted of Apple Carplay, the wireless charger and a wifi hotspot in the M2. This is in Canada, btw.

One of the staff there had an M2, so we checked out the wireless charger and I couldn't fit my S6 Edge+ in it. There doesn't seem to be any threads about ppl's phones not fitting in there, so I thought I'd start one.

Were we completely using the wireless cradle incorrectly or does it not really fit the larger phones?

Did I make a mistake not to get the connectivity package? I don't have an iPhone so the Apple CarPlay is a non issue for me and I read about many people having issues with Apple CarPlay.

I have a case on my S8 that adds maybe 1/4" to 3/8" to the length of the phone and it will not fit with the case on (but does with the case off). Your S6 Edge + is a few millimeters longer than the S8, so that might be just enough to push it over a length that will work. If you do have a case on your phone you would almost certainly have to take it off for the phone to fit.

You have to take the case off for the charging to work anyways, no?

No, wireless charging works through cases

I will probably take my charging pad out, totally useless for me and just takes up space. If it was just a pad and not a holder the way GM does it, that would be better and anything would fit that was wireless charging be it a phone or apple watch etc.

It doesn't fit the larger phone lengths. Guessing the iPhone 8 will fit. iPhone 7 not 7+ fit. So if iPhone 7S has wireless charging it should work.

Don't do android so can't comment on those.

Im using it with my iPhone SE with

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Works spot in, slots in fine etc. The only thing is the case and qi pad although don't seem to have any weight to them when you add the iPhone I really notice the weight increase.

Does anyone know if by using the wireless charger in the M2 your mobile uses the external mobile antenna which is supposedly fitted to the car?

I have tried with case on/off for my Pixel XL and doesn't fit under both circumstances. Curious about removing the slider at the end and making my own solution.

I refuse to get an iPhone.

Is the wireless charger only available with the Executive Package in the US, or can it be added as a single option? Are there any after market options? Thanks.

As far as I know the executive package is the only way in the US.

Plenty of aftermarket Qi (the most common standard) solutions out there. Might eat up a USB port or a cig lighter but I’m sure witha little effort you can make it look good.

Wireless charging finally coming to a big screened iPhone X is going to be game changing. Since historically the bigger phones have not fit inside the BMW cradles.

Thumbs down iPhone X

So the iPhone X won't fit in the cradle? I have nowhere for my iPhone 6 plus in the M2 now. It goes into the door storage area. I would like to be able to charge it with the USB in the car.

I don't see that confirmed anywhere. Iphone 6 and case fits fine with 1/4 to 3/8 inches to spare. The X looks marginally bigger.

The X will fit. The phones dimensions are on Apple's website. It's smaller than BMWs stated max dimensions.

From BMWs manual, the cradle max phone dimension is
Quote:
5.9 x 2.9 x 0.6 in / 151 x 74 x 16 mm.
If you take a look at Apple's website on the X
Quote:
5.65 x 2.79 x 0.3 in / 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm
Looks like there's even room for a thin case in those dimensions.

It sucks that the iphone 6 plus doesn't fit. Is there anyway you could adjust the wireless charging dock to make the 6+ fit?

The iPhone X fits with a case and some wiggle room for a larger case. I have a simple slim fit case off of amazon. I use mine for longer trips while running a navigation app with directions spoken through Bluetooth. I didn't fork up the extra $ for navigation when I was just going to get CarPlay and run waze or apple maps. Later found out I needed nav to buy CarPlay...
