In my never ending quest to enhance track performance, I decided to fabricate a more efficient brake cooling system. I use the Pagid RS29 pads, but on really fast tracks I was still experiencing a little fade at the end of the sessions. I ordered the M2 specific brake cooling kit from Lightweight in Germany, but they only sent the CF backing plates, hoses, and clamps. No scoops?!! Two months later and numerous emails still haven't produced any scoops. And no offer of a refund. The customer service with this company is HORRENDOUS!! But I digress...I installed the backing plates in anticipation of obtaining the scoops. As I had a track event coming, I installed the Porsche GT3 brake duct spoilers hoping to offer a temporary solution but they weren't very effective because the design of the CF backing plates offered little direct access to the rotors, and I wasn't willing to cut them just to get more air. So I decided to make the backing plates do what they were designed to do (plus they look so good installed). I sourced some hand laid fiberglass A-arm brake ducts off eBay. I purchased a simple gutter guard grate from Home Depot and cut it to fit the scoops to prevent debris from entering the ducts. Simple zip ties were used to secure them to the A-arms. The orifice for the ducts were 2.5", and the orifice for the backing plates were 3". Purchased a reducer to fix that issue. Went with the 2.5" brake hose instead of the 3" because it's tight under there. Plenty of ground clearance as the ducts don't extend below the lowest point of the engine guard plate. I'll test it this weekend at Mosport, but I think it'll do the trick.

Looks like it would function quite well! I know some Audi guys had NACA ducts installed in the undertray feeding the brake cooling hose.

Worked flawlessly. Absolutely no fade whatsoever at Mosport. And I purposely tried to destroy the pads. Mission accomplished.

Currently I run the GT3 scoops and cut shields inspired by your previous setup!

DrKevM5,

Could you please give us an update on your cooling solution? I'm continuing to get significant fade on hard runs even with the 997 spoiler DIY.

Thanks.

As stated earlier, they work flawlessly. No fade whatsoever at Watkins Glen.

This looks a lot like what I did on my e36 before I switched to Hard Motorsport ducts.

They were in a box of parts that came with the car, but looks like Magnus has found them for you.
They are solid, I ran off track with them on and they filled up with dirt but didn't break.

Those who have these installed - do you notice any penalties to daily driving (such as reduced MPG or increased NVH?)
