HEEELP, i just damaged my throttle valve or MAF sensor???
hello,
so on the pic, you have that plug on the top of the throttle valve that I thought is EGR plug as I was going to test to disconnect it electronically, so I disconnected the whole plug and drove some and didn't feel any difference. but after i drove later, i noticed the hugely increased fuel consumption from 8.5l it went to 15l / 100km for information. and today I have finally installed DIS V57 and run a valve throttle test and when I activated the test the car just shut down, I did unplug it and plug it in and investigated and tested it 2x and every time the car shut down. did I just damaged the throttle valve by driving briefly with it unplugged like that??? below is a pic of the plug and valve throttle below is a pic i found onlilne, but it's the same thing. don't be confused by white arrow as it was something else, I am talking about electrical plug on top. also, there is no fault code UPDATE: I forgot to mention I also disassemble MAF sensor and is there a chance I killed it??? today, I bought air cleaner cleaned it, but it still didn't improve it consumes double the standard, which is about 15l/100km and before 8.5 Last edited by bayerischer; 08-09-2017 at 02:43 PM.. |

Plug the valve back in and leave it plugged in. That car should correct itself. The car kept shutting down because I am assuming the test you ran closes that throttle valve which starves the engine of air and it dies.

well, no the test is supposed to open and close the valve in 2 seconds intervals. I have done it a year ago and it did open and close, but now it just shutted down the car.
plus i have doubled the fuel consumption. I think I probably even did unplug it while running engine....and there is a loads of eletronics that went bad probably I dont remember as I done it few days ago, when I was reading here about disconnecting EGR electronically. but where is that EGR plug then when this is the one to the throttle valve? I haven't seen any other plug into the EGR. |

P.S. what does the arrow in the photo have to do with the situation? It is pointing at charge pipe coming into the inlet of the ASV. The ASV connector is at middle right of that picture. Stoner, the loose screw would cause a boost leak but shouldn't shut down the car. |

Isnt shutting down exactly what you would expect to happen when the throttle valve closes? That is half the point of even having it on this engine in the first place.

The engine isn't a delicate flower like you seem to be thinking. Plug back in and drive for awhile. The fuel consumption should sort itself out. Instantaneous fuel consumption doesn't mean anything. Get it a few hundred kilometers to correct itself.

ok i forgot to mention that i also manipulated with MAF sensor, and today i bought an air sensor cleaner and clean it up, but no help..... could i damage air mass sensor? I am not skilled mechanic and it was difficult to take it out and I moved the thing quite harshly too....
now my fuel consumption is DOUBLED!! every time I barely stomp the gas pedal, it is showing maximum consumption......did I just killed my MAF!!???? omg |

What do you mean you manipulated the MAF? There are no moving parts in the MAF so not sure what that could mean. If you just touch the MAF film, especially if its hot, you can toast the film and the sensor would need to be replaced.

well i manipulated with the housing of it, not the actual thing, but i couldn't get it off so i pull it rather harshly....and the inner thing moved even though it was screwed....
so i am looking for a new MAF and i read that people have problems with after market MAFs???? they recommmend OEM BMW??? I can see Bosch for some reasonable price... |
