Tinted Rear Window - Hard to see at night?

I am planning to tint my M2 but not sure if I should tint the rear window. I had all 5 windows tinted on my last car and it was difficult to see the cars behind me when driving at night or after sunset. Do you have the same issue or is it just me? I am not sure if I should tint the rear window this time so I want to hear what you all think before I make my decision.

Is this a troll?

The lowest common denominator on the internet these days is so low that I really can't tell anymore.

Appears to be an honest question. If you drive at night allot and your eyes are not so good I wouldn't do it. If you drive mainly days in a sunny environment I would do it. For looks only is another story.

Well there are many differing darknesses of tint. My old 335i came with a super dark tint on the rear and yes I would have preferred that slightly lighter for driving at night. Current car came without a tint so I chose a dark tint one step up from the full limo style tint and that is perfect. Dark enough for privacy and a better aesthetic without compromising night driving.

16% all around, I can see just fine with the auto dimming mirror at night. Compared to my other BMW's, the M2 doesn't dim as much, which I like!

Use a medium level tint. I've had a 35 on my vehicles with no problem. Here a tint simulator that can maybe help you:

I should be a bit more up front with this rear window tinting question. Besides looking at the rear view mirror for standard driving practices, I often use it to check if a cop is sneaking up behind me. When there is a fast approaching car behind me I want to know if it is a cop so I can quickly get out of its way. I feel very uncomfortable when a cop is behind me. My previous car had no tint so I was able to tell if the car behind me is a cop or not in most cases. With the rear window tinted I was not able to tell at all. Perhaps my question should be "Would it look weird to have the rear window tinted lighter than the side windows?" Have anyone done this?

Yes it would look weird. You shouldn't have a problem with a dark rear window at night, you see and recognize the cars behind you by their headlights. I don't even think a clear view out the rear window is a must - you should be comfortable with your side mirrors anyways. My M2 has no tints, but my E92 is tinted 35% in rear windows- I can't even tell that its tinted when I drive at night.
