Tyre pressure monitors
Anybody else getting intermittent messages indicating low tyre pressure?
I have it most mornings, but usually not in the evenings, I'm guessing because the car has been left in the sun for a while, so the ambient temperature increases the pressure....??? Anyway, it's now intermittently telling me to stay below 80 miles per hour, which is slightly worrying as I have only 3500 miles on the clock. The pressure indicated is slightly below the recommended, but the same on all 4 tyres! Getting winter tyres put on this Friday so I'm planning to ask the dealer to carry out a check.

If the temperatures are low the recommended pressure will be lower so basically you need to put in some more air to meet what the car is staying the recommended should be.
You will notice that as the tyres warm up the recommended will increase slightly |

As the seasons change in the autumn and spring, the air pressure changes as the air cools down (autumn) or heats up (spring). That is why we often have to add or subtract some air during these transitions.

I don't think temperatures make any difference to tyre pressure monitoring. At least to the extent to show a low tyre pressure. When the tyres are warmer, pressure gauges change anyway. You can see this when you've been driving for a while with tyre pressure increasing.
So if your TPM is all over the place, it'll be something else. Worth getting it checked out. |

Have a look at page 30 of the Chassis and Suspension training guide. It explains how temperature affects the tire pressure and the monitoring. My feeling is there is nothing wrong with your car or it's systems, you just need to put another PSI or two into the tires. We know from high school physics that pressure decreases with decreasing temperature for a given volume of air.

ok, just seemed to me it was a no brainer to try a little extra air and see if the problem went away. Don't think the OP has anything to lose by trying it but that's JMO.

Very common to get low tire pressure warning when the weather gets colder. Happens all the time. Check the label on the your driver's door sill for recommended pressure and air up your tires if low.

Thanks All for your comments. I know the "solution" is kinda obvious but I found it strange I got this problem, if it is one, so early in the car's life (4 months). Maybe it's just very sensitive, picking up differences in air pressure and temperature, as some of you have suggested.
