Monaco GP 2008
Every year I take a small number of customers over for the Grand Prix.
I have a hosting company that I use that organises the whole thing for me - We meet at the Raddison @ Stansted (I tend to stay over the night before to avoid a cripplingly early start) get a coach transfer to Harrods aviation lounge where we have a champagne reception breakfast, catch a private charter flight to Nice, coach transfer into Monaco, top-flight Grandstand seats and then home again after a few hours drinking in the square - it's a fantastic day. This year was a little different. A colleague of a colleague had taken the plunge of hiring a boat, and invited us on. I'm not quite sure what I was expecting, but certainly not what we got! We got through harbour security and were met by a member of the crew, who collected us in the tender and took us back here Oh My God The boat was phenominal. I took some photos, but they just don't do it justice. We were moored by the exit of the tunnel - the view wasn't great (although we did have a huge flat screen TV in the boat) but the Bollanger and canapes made up for that. The package cost was £140k for the whole week - but that included a number of apartments in Monaco itself, food, drink, grandstand tickets, flights etc. Two of my customers have already pledged £50k a piece towards the bill, so it looks like I'll be captain Simon at next years' GP!! We were directly opposite the Vodaphone yacht - I got a wave from one Mr Puff Daddy as were were heading back to the track after the race. We walked some of the circuit, then managed to sneak into the pit lane and got a lot closer to the cars than I think the general public are meant to... All in all, an awesome day - I can recomment it to anyone. Come next year and I may even pipe you aboard HMS Sheps!

The closest I've been to a GP was last year, October, when I was visiting Barcelona and went to a special historical event in Montjuic called "Formula One returns to Barcelona". It was excellent, I shaked hands with Fittipaldi, who drove the Lotus in which he won the Barcelona GP in 1972.
It was excellent! Formula One Returns to Barcelona. I wish I could go to one real GP - unfortunately they no longer have one in the US. Last edited by martieg; 05-27-2008 at 08:40 AM.. |

Wow - I'd love to go to Monaco - been to quite a few GP's including Senna's amazing drive at Donington (93?).
To be part of the Monaco jetset for a day must be a truly memorable experience. Bit of a pants race for Ferrari but never mind....
