Anybody know all the differences between the adaptors installed to connect i-Pod through i-Drive, the differences between the connection installed by the factory and the one installed by dealers?

Both use iDrive.


Factory = 6FL
Has USB Port, and connects through the center arm rest.

Dealer
Mimics a CD Drive. Cannot have 6CD played with this option. Typically connects through the storage bin

Can you explain? Are both connections usb? Is the only difference the location, one in the glove compartment and one in the center console.

There are a metric shitload of threads on this already. No, they're not both USB. the dealer installed adapter is the same dealer installed adapter that's been available for years. It's a dock connector on a cable in the glove box.
