Built-In GPS Antenna

I was wondering if anyone knows how/if I can connect to the built in GPS antenna on my '08 E90? I am assuming that the actual antenna is in the "shark fin" and that if the GPS option is chosen, then a "black box" would be added using the signal from the GPS in the "shark fin"? If this is true, then i would want to connect an extension cable to the end of the cable coming from the "fin" and run it to my portable GPS unit.

Any ideas?
