xi Drive Shaft/Oil Pan Leak
So does anyone have experience with this? I understand the industry standard design engineers the front drive shaft through the oil pan to maintain clearance. What appears to be a small oil leak has developed in my car @ 1,800 miles. The leak is occurring where the shaft enters the oil pan. The techs at the dealership diagnosed that the o-ring seal was mis-aligned and needs to be replaced.
I was sent home with the car until they can get parts. I've not heard of this on any forum & the SA said the same (although I gather it's a common refrain in the service dept of absolute shock that a problem has developed in one of their new cars). Thanks.

Leak fixed
So it was a relatively easy fix that took approximately 2.5 hrs. Similar to cadbimmer, the dealer SA or tech had not seen this previously.
They removed & replaced the leaking o-ring at the engine oil pan and front drive axle housing, which included removing the front right axle. The axle housing was removed & cleaned and front differential was then filled with new differential fluid. Four parts were replaced including the front shaft seal lock ring, o-ring, self-locking hex nut & collar nut. Estimated cost would be ~$800.00 but was replaced under warranty. Thanks to all and trust this issue is past and was simply a day w/o my wheels.

I had this problem around 3k miles. Took the car to the dealer they said input shafts on both sides (o rings) tend to be misaligned from factory on the XI models. You wont see this problem on the I. Just do a search on 'oil leak' and you will see my thread w/ pics and some other guy who had the same problem!! I think they also change the 'mechatronic seal'

Although the car has been glitchy, the warranty service is awesome. I just got my driver side mirror repaired, the starter replaced, the transfer case servo motor replaced, and the door lock mechanism repaired... lol
I can't even imagine the cost if it wasn't for warranty!

If I recall, it was the central rear portion of the transmission housing. If you look under your car, you'll see the silver housing with 2 holes which I believe are towards the rear of the car.

I dont see how coilovers or springs or suspension mods could cause the o rings or the mechatronic seals to come undone. My SA told me its common on some XI models for this to happen
