You've probably heard this asked a lot, but do you have any insight into when the NA configurator will go live? Even a hint?

Very cool that production has started. When were these 4.0 cars first ordered? I got a production order number on my 5.0 last week but wonder when it goes into production. Have received mixed messages from dealer.

Timeframe from Order to Production

From those who've placed their orders already and are in the system, what is the typical timeframe from order placement to receiving your car in general?

We are a Week 41 order (October 8th), should be to dealer by first week of December. 3 months is generally a good estimate. Obviously the less distance the car has to be shipped from the factory the less the wait time will be by a bit. We are on the West coast, so that adds to the time. And there can be other unforeseen delays as well...

yep, good point. Remember the X5 is made in South Carolina. So west coast shipments can vary by 4-5 days from east coast shipments.

Had a chance to see one today at PCD - it's gorgeous!!!! Love the interior especially the new instrument cluster and navigation screen. The x5m is going to be full bad arse.

I just got off the phone with my cousin who works on the assembly line at the Spartanburg plant. She gave me some inside scoop on some of the X-5 peculiar delays.

- very recently at the Spartanburg plant there was a fire. The damages completely halted some but not all assembly lines for three weeks. BMW diverted some of the assembly to a plant someplace in Tennessee and things just got kinda' off axis for the X-5 release. They're kinda' in "panic mode". Hopefully they'll get back on track.

- I was also told that everything on the line is being rushed to the extreme now. So much that there's large number of X-5's with "dummy" instrument panels installed instead of working panels, wow. Of course this means mandatory "re-work", as in pulling the dash to reinstall the working panels.

- on the outside of the plant there's a very large parking lot full of vehicles. At first glance the casual passerby would assume these vehicles are ready for delivery to their dealerships. Nope, the parking lot is for X-vehicles needing rework and there are many.

- X-7's are in full-swing, Yay!
