M240i - ZF8- Aggressive Upshift

Hi,

Currently have an M240i and under hard acceleration (flooring it), up shifts in manual mode on the ZF8 have a real harsh change, almost as though the revs are not matching or the engine/gearbox is lagging behind.

I used to have an M235i with a nice tune on it and under hard acceleration and manual mode i didn't experience anywhere near the aggressiveness i am with the 240

Does anyone else with a 240 experience this?

thanks !

I don't think I have noticed anything of that sort, but I haven't made many hard pulls (in manual mode). Next time I'm out I will test it and report back.

Does it sound alot like this guys issue - But with a ZF8 instead of manual transmission?

https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show...1510122&page=2

If so, i feel his article is explaining what i experience every now and then when im having a thrash in my ZF8 in manual mode.

I'll lean hard on to the throttle and go for a quick change usually 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th, and the revs will jump up and then down quickly, while letting out a little awkward burble before engaging a gear and continuing to accelerate.

Sound similar?

I'm having the same issue you described. I think it might be caused by the electronical throttle that thinks you'll continue accelerating when you quickly leave your foot off the gas.

I've had an m235i xdrive the past 3 years and know exactly what you are talking about. sometimes when I upshift, it is so violent it hurts my neck! lol. however I've kind of gotten used to it over time and prefer it to a car that shifts so smoothly you can barely tell it is even shifting.

When you in manual mode are you manually shifting or are you letting the car shift for you?

It's designed to give a nice kick in the ass for that driver engagement. It's not as much kick as an M car with DCT.

The kick and burp at upshifts are characteristics of a fast hard shift. M3s kick harder. My 911 was silky smooth until it was time to drive it hard, then the upshifts kicked super hard. Race cars (like 911 cup cars) kick even harder. It's how it was designed.

I turned my m235i in on lease last week and now have an m240i. So far I think the shifting under acceleration is much smoother than my m235i was. However I haven't stomped on it super hard yet as I'm trying to keep the revs down until I hit 1200 miles.
