G05 Wheel and Tire Specs

Going with the 1TD Style 740M wheels on my week 40 xDrive40i build with ZMP, since those appear to be the largest wheels offered with all-season tires.

We live in suburban Chicago, and on my AMG, I'm fine swapping the winter set on/off (still able to the maintain a stagger). But the X5 will serve primarily as my wife's daily driver, at least initially... so a square set up of all-seasons should do just fine.

But should the garage get re-swizzled down the road, I may want to mount winter tires on the 740M wheels and get a set of performance tires on a staggered set of (BMW?) wheels. MPPK might at that point also be in the cards, if available

Question 1: Where can I get the specs on the 1PA (742M), 1XB (744), 1XN (741M) wheels? I'm specially looking for the offsets, should I go the aftermarket route.

Questions 2, 3 (and 4): What is option 840, and why -- according to the Order Guide -- would it be added with the 21" and 22" option wheels? (If my build doesn't include 840, would I be prevented down the road from installing a staggered summer set up?)

Question 5: Where can I find tire specs, including BMW-recommended winters? (My frame of reference: an AMG product manager for the E63 monitored a Private Lounge forum, and was able to provide a table of specific Mercedes-approved winters.)

Thank you!

UPDATE: Just found in Order Guide. 840 is top speed limiter increase. Curious why that would necessarily be done in conjunction with larger wheels.

The 840 option isn't tied to the wheel size, its tied to the high performance tires (from what I can tell). So the higher performance tires most likely have a higher speed rating than the all-seasons...which allows for the speed limiter to be increased for the X5. The high performance tires also come with the staggered wheel setup.

I'm fairly certain you aren't going to be hitting the lower top speed anyway (its probably 135mph instead of 155mph)...so you are probably fine.

Need Help Thinking through Best Way to Get Two Sets of Wheels

Thank you, ScottMZ3 .

Need help thinking through the optimal way to end up with a set of 1XN 741M 21" staggered set with performance (summer) tires and a set of 1TD 740M 20" square set with all seasons (winters).

My build includes ZMP and 300 Space Saver Spare.

Would it be better to pay the $950 upgrade charge to get the 741Ms with the build, and buy the 740Ms separately afterwards (Option 1)... or take the 740Ms with the build and buy the 741Ms separately (Option 2)?

Two dimensions to "better," I suppose: 1) cost, and; 2) tires.

Eventually, I'd prefer to ditch the RFTs on both sets. Option 1) would allow me to pick my own non-RFT winter tires, and I could pick my own summers with Option 2).

I guess Option 2) also assumes I can get by initially with all season RFTs as my winters.

Any suggestions on how/where to buy a second set of OEM wheels?

Thank you!

Pay 950 to get the upgrade to 741. You won't get them any cheaper. For 20s you will have people here selling them to upgrade to other 21 and 22 aftermarket options just watch the classified section light up once deliveries start. Anyone wanting after market rims will get the 20 with m sport and sell them soon after delivery.

Just ordered the X5 with 22" Wheels with summer tires (no other choice on the tires). Estimated delivery is the middle of November which means I need to take them off and I plan on putting on the 21" (741M) with snow tires. Difficult to find reasonable priced 741M wheels let alone as a set with winter tires. 20" wheels just wouldn't look right on this X5 with MSport Package. If you can find a place, other than the dealer where prices are higher, that charges a good price, please let me know. I thought you already ordered your car? You're able to change it?

I can't find any winter tires that will fit the 21s. Have you?

I know this is quite a old thread now, but I'm in basically the same situation you were in. As follow-up, what did you end up doing and how has it worked out? What two wheels are you using, etc.
