Who has the stock sound system, 10 speaker?
I have the 10 speaker stock stereo in my 2008 328i coupe/ It has been in 2 times for speaker replacement, etc due to bad amp, then another time for a leak in my taillight which fried my amp.
I was wondering, for all the people who have this radio, does your bass suck? I mean really bad..I have it all the way to 10 and it sounds like crap..distorted when volume is high, and barely any punch. My speakers sound "tinny" too.. Just wondering if I need to make another appt, I swear my radio did not sound this bad when I bought it and I was wondering what other peoples experience with this is, or its just a terrible stock system. I got into a cheapo Honda Civic Si and it has better sound then mine |

I'm not sure how different it is but my dad has the 328xi sedan with the stock stereo. I can't say any of these problems have come up yet but I will keep an eye out for them. As far as sound quality goes.. I don't remember it sounding to bad even compared to my Logic 7 in my e92. Before you go completely crazy you should hop into another car with the same stereo to see how that sounds. I have always found that the more you keep listening to the same stereo, the more you are able to pick up the not so good things about it... Especially when hoping from one car with a fantastic radio back into that car. It may sound crazy but it may be something silly like that. |

I have the stock system in a 07 E90. Between the Sirius, and the iPod line out (wide cable as opposed to the using the iPod's headphone jack) into the AUX port in the console, I think the sound is excellent - well balanced, sufficient volume, etc.

I thought the stock sound sucked. I just overhauled my entire system. The bass sucks in the stock system too, just like you think it does. In the L7 you can at least use the eq to get the most out of it.
But yeah, you're not on crack it is pretty bad, particularly in the bass department. |

Well, I wanted no signs of a system upgrade and like the stock look so I got a PDX-5 and put it where the stock amp is, I upgraded the subs to SWS-8s, I put infinity co-axials on the rear deck and Morel Dotech Ovations for the front. I then put a Audiocontrol DQX under the trunk deck which handles the crossovers and eqing for the front. All of this, once you know what to do is really actually pretty easy. If you need any help just pm me and I can walk you through most of it.

Just my two cents but I haven't had the slightest problemwith my 10 speaker system... Then again I am not the audiophile type and have been overseas listening to CD's for the past 15 months. I did notice that the IPod through the aux jack sucks.

Setting a "boost" parameter such as Bass all the way to its maximum generally is a poor idea and will yeild you bad sound quality and bass reproduction no matter what system you have.

i have the 10 speaker stereo also. I know that you can only put the volume up to half way with the bass all the way up ( on certain tracks) before you start distorting. Past that, all tracks will distort your subwoofers. Even at 0, i still distort on bassy songs. Right now, i am at -1 with no distortion on any tracks even bass tester tracks. Try it out, i think it might help.

the bmw radio sucks balls with mp3's that are not near lossless (as in the best possible). logic7 surround only sounds good on lossless imo (as in no mp3). it then comes alive. i guess since my harmon kardon never had mp3 i never thought of that aspect.
crap in crap out. takes 10 minutes tops to load a small 10" in the trunk if you need to feel bass
