Architectural Jobs in UK
I'm looking to get out of this sinking ship called the US, and I'm wondering how are the architectural jobs overseas? DO they pay good how would a person from the US go about getting work over there, etc?
Thanks!

Historically, an architect would be responsible for design, contract administration and project management. On commercial developments it is now very much limited to design and for the most part the design process is contractor led (ie architect is employed by the contractor). A lot depends on the type of projects you are working on. It tends to be quite specialist here so you will find architectural practices which predominantly do offices, or hotels, or commercial or industrial and rarely cross over between different building types. The exception are the higher profile signature architects who tend to do front end design, but don't necessarily follow through at the delivery end (e.g. Will Alsop, Make, Rogers etc.) Pay varies significantly by region, seniority and they type of work. I reckon anywhere from £35-55K pre tax for an associate and £55 - £100+ plus for a director. |
