I think the crystal gear shift, iDrive controller, volume dial, and start button look awesome (and so does my wife who will be driving the X5)! The automotive industry is all about trends. One company is always going to do something "first" and others will follow if customers are receptive to it. BMW took the crystal application further than Volvo did too...and I think they look better than Volvo's use.

I've managed to see the "crystal" gear shift lever many many times in these posts, but aside from the middle portion having a clear geometric and angular look, how does it differ from the standard one? Does this picture look like the standard shift lever? The clear middle portion appears smooth here, but not sure?

Seems like a lot of $$ for little difference. Especially on something you really shouldn't be looking at while driving. lol.. I'd do it for $100-200 more but $650 seems ridiculous. Bet I can buy an amazing crystal vase for 1/2 that. They should just add $200 to exec package and include it.

Guys, it’s an option. If you don’t like it, don’t get it. That simple. BMW probably thought it wouldn’t be in everyone’s taste, so that is why it’s not bundled with another package like the Executive Package.
The wife and I think it’s great, so we ordered it.

I ordered the crystal shifter for the wife, and the 22's for me. She also wanted the heated/cooled cup holders.
I'm feeling very entitled and ostentatious. It's going to be awesome. |

Exactly - M50d's in the UK (X5 build your own configurator has gone missing..) and in Australia have no other wheel option - it's 22" period, very sad (no black either btw). I have an M50d December build slot (wanted the cargo option) with delivery probably March. See my post where I asked for help with other possible wheel options: Switching wheels and tires ((Please read and help!)) Again, my apologies re: Crystal misunderstanding. |
