None of the other three Germans offer a manual transmission either.
Good luck. Time to upgrade to a P-Car. |

How bout an M240i?? Other than that, the only car left is genesis, but i watched a review that said the clutch is weirdly long and heavy, with long throws, and certain options like a sunroof and other things are not available on the manual model. And its on the 2l turbo 4 so,... not much to choose from

It's really frustrating for sure. My 2016 340i 6MT is up at end of lease in March. Leaves me trying to find a 2018 M3 6MT sitting on the lot, a M240 (too small and "cheap" on the inside) or a 440i (too much of the same and just won't compare to my previous coupe, the 335is).
I did test drive an X3 M40i and it was quite a nice ride. I suppose if sticks are out might as go all crazy and look at an SUV Frustrated! |

Without a 6spd the 3 series is not my first choice - or even second or third, when my lease is up in July I'll be getting one of the following:
S5 Sportback Jag XE S Volvo V60 There isn't much else to say, I think BMW has lost the sport sedan race now. |

Honda has kept MT going
As my next DD, the '19 Type R with toned down aero has my eye. Cool car, and don't care what people say about the racy looks. It's about the driving experience! Shock of all shocks!

I'm still hoping the G80 M3 will offer a MT, probably for the last time. Then hopefully the 2 series will offer one a bit longer...after that, it will be true sports cars only, such as Porsche Boxster/Cayman or the Mazda Miata. At that point I'll need to decide whether I buy used or just give up and go full on electric for my DD...

The New 3-Series Doesn’t Get....
....a manual transmission option! In the US we can only get the 8 speed automatic transmission. Why? BMW has to sent each engine-transmission combination through EPA testing to determine emissions, and DOT testing for mileage.

Yes, that is the result, but that isn't the reason. The costs for emissions and fuel economy cert are relatively low and easily recovered in the most conservative business plan. The issue is the need to impact test each powertrain family in each configuration to establish compliance with FMVSS (notably 208 - frontal impact). That gets hugely expensive...time, resources, displaces other programs which need access to the impact barrier facility, and millions of dollars for prototype builds. If they believe they can sell the available plant capacity with automatics only, the low or lack of incremental margin from incremental volume does not support adding another powertrain combination...sadly for many.
