M5 F90 - is oil consumption issue fixed?

Hi,
in two weeks I will be collecting my new F90 BMW M5. The only concern I get regarding this car is, whether BMW have fixed oil consumption issue in S63 engine. My current BMW M4 do not consume any oil at all. What are your experience with the F90 M5 Engine?

Had an F10 which required a top up every 4-5,000km. I've done almost 11,000km in my F90 without a top up.

My F10 only needed 1 quart every 10k miles. The original N63 consumed oil like mad and had tons of issues, but the S63 seemed to be totally fine.

In my experience, that would depend on what oil you use as well as a new engine will soak up some oil to seat the gaskets as they are fresh.

I changed my oil to redline 0w30 at 5,000 mark and it hasn't moved since - now at 10K.

I think it's hit or miss, and some will say it's how you break in the car.

I have 2013 X5M (still have it), 2016 M6 (gone), 2016 M5 (my DD along with P100D), none of them consumes oil.

I'm the type pedal to the metal when I bought them new, don't know if it has anything to do with it.

And I have only used factory oil so far.

Both of my F10 M5's consumed quite a bit of oil; the 13' was far worse than the 15'.

To early to tell on my 19' M5C.

So it seems that it is quite good basing on the above answers, and there is an hope for the issue to be solved by BMW. Yesterday I met two M6 owners, and both were complaining about the oil consumption. First one from 13' M6 said that it consumes 1 liter per 1000 kilometers Second one have bought the 16' car with 14 000 kilometers on it, and said that previous owner already had to add some oil to it between oil changes. Hope that my M5 Competition will be healthy Looking forward for other people sharing their experience with new M5 Engine in this thread.

Absent a dipstick, how does one "manually check" it? Take off the fill cap and peer into the manifold?

I have about 4800 miles. Last time oil was filled was during the 1200 service. I ran the diagnostic and the oil is showing just under the max line. So I don't think it is leaking any oil.

I don't think its a leak, its blow by and the pcv valve. With direct inject its a problem.

Is this your first Bmw?

Bmw didn't make dipstick for about 12 years now.

On the subject of oil, I know scheduled maintenance says first oil change at 10K miles, but I've never let a new car go that long. To you fellow gearheads: is a prophylactic change at 5000 miles worthwhile or a waste of $120 give or take?

I would say there is no issue at all, someone would have reported this by now

Service change the oil few days ago at 5,300 mil. Didn't even ask for it. Lol
I was there for changing to winter tires and they decided to change oil even dough it showed due in 2200mil.
That was nice from them because it was at no charge and, it saved me a trip....it's 2 hour drive back and forth plus the waiting time.

Was an absence to Benz from '07 to my '16 550 m-sport. I could have sworn it had one, but then again, i have a few cars and might be confused. lol
