Logic7 and sub impedance.
I have read on this forum that the stock amp puts out whatever voltage (75W) at 4-ohms.
Does anyone know if I can load it down? ie. install 2-ohm SWS-8's? Or does this mean nothing and that I should get 4-ohm SWS-8's? TIA. |

Logic7 subs are 4 ohms; get the 4 ohm version and avoid having OEM amp issues, as reducing the subs impedance in half will make the OEM amp output as much as double the rated power and in turn running hotter than spec.

If you are going to upgrade the drivers, you should add a small amp to drive them. I kept the subs under the seat and added some more power to drive them. I also put a 10 inch sub in a sealed enclosure in the back, and everything sounds great.

Yeah, I know the best way is to get another amp. The problem with me is that I told myself that with this car, I would not go overboard on the stereo. I spent 11+ G's on my E39 stereo, and don't want to do it again. I've already put about 10G into my E90, and nothing into my stereo yet...and I don't really want to.

The earthquake subs sound terrible with stock amp..much less output than the oem, and they started to distort when I turned up volume. Im guessing the oem have a much higher sensitivity..

You don't have to spend a lot of money to get the Logic7 to sound better.

When I spoke to Earthquake a few months back, the engineer was touting the 2 ohm version as a drop in replacement for the BMW system. I don't know what kind of testing that they have performed with the OEM amps, but for sure your amp will run hotter as it will be pushing more power on the sub channels.
We don't know for sure how this will all work out until somebody actually tries it. A previous post mentioned getting good results from just replacing the sub on the logic 7 system. Now that the sub is 2 ohm, you will have even more power going to it so it should sound better. The real question is if the amp can handle the extra workload. Someone needs to try and see...
