The iPhone 3G DOES NOT WORK WELL in your E90 - Echo problem

I know that a member has stated that the 3G iPhone works flawlessly in the E90. Unfortunately I'm here to say that contrary to what's been posted it doesn't work very well at all due to an echo.

The noise is such that when you're talking you can hear yourself talk. It's been confirmed now with 3 different iPhones and 3 different new BMW's (I work at a BMW Center). The previous iPhone worked flawlessly.

Until Apple resolves this issue, I advise you hold off upgrading to the new iPhone.

This has been my experience too. I am going to take my iPhone to an Apple Store this afternoon and try to get it swapped out for another one. I'll post if anything changes.

I haven't talked to anyone yet. I'll have to give it a try.

And you're getting NO echo? I paired my car with both my 328i and a new 650 vert and had the same problem

The phone doesn't work well in the car; we're in a car forum. I'm glad you liked the way that your contacts transferred but that's not really relevant here.

I also have similar echo issues with my E90. However I've been told the person I was talking to couldn't hear the echos. So if you can live with hearing the sound of your own voice...

Besides, I wouldn't hold off JUST because it has an echo in your car. How often would you use a phone OUTSIDE of the car???

The issue is bad enough that people at the other end of the line are complaining about poor reception.

Considering I work for a BMW Center and am in the car a large portion of my day fielding calls, it's a big enough turn off that I would've rather stuck with my 1st Gen iPhone - too bad it's gone or I'd revert back to it.

OK, a strongly disagree with this....

!! It works perfectly !! I have been using it all weekend without any issue at all. No echo, no problems at all.

The only difference here is I have an e92 rather than an e90.

Another difference is that you're in a different country with different electrical wiring/options for the car.

A number of BFest members are reporting the same issues.

Thus far we've paired 3 different new iPhones with 4 new BMW's and the issue is present across the board. If this can't be resolved this week; I'm taking the thing back.

OK, sounds good to me.

Therefore, since Apple ship the same iPhone 3G configs worldwide, and mine works perfectly, the problem therefore is with BMW, not Apple.

I would go to my local BMW dealer and demand a fix rather than Apple.

You don't read very well do you?

I an employee of the local BMW Center...

Also; Apple does not ship the same phone world wide; your carrier varies from what we have here in the US.

Paired my phone in an E90 M3 today; was able to talk for a couple minutes and then the dreaded echo started.

P.S. Contrary to some, voice calling still works. I don't have iDrive.

Syncs fine but I get a bad echo. I'm going to return my iPhone 3G today and switch back to my 1st gen phone until all of this gets sorted.

Thanks for the info folks. I was about ready to upgrade my V1 iPhone to the 3G, now I'll wait to see what happens with this echo problem.
