Playing Mixtapes in Logic 7
Hey guys,
My buddy's a local DJ and he just dropped a House CD. Now like all mixtapes, it plays seamslessly with no cuts inbetween tracks. Now the problem is that for some reason, the Logic7 loves to let me know when a track ends/starts by cutting out the sound for about half a second, and believe you me, this is one of the most annoying things in the world. Has anyone else experienced anything like this, or am I the only one? BTW, does anyone know if there's an option that I can select to disable it? Thanks in advance guys! - Rohit

yea i definately know what you mean. I put together mix tapes as well and the first time I played it was in my car and i thought the CD was all messed up. Then I played it on another CD player and it was fine.
I would love to know how to fix it, it is kinda annoying |

Yes there is an issue with the new radios for the 2008 model year. My 08 135 does it too.
BMW is aware and seem to think that this is "normal" operation. Hopefully if enough people complain to BMW then they will attempt a software fix on the radios. Check out the below thread. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ighlight=audio |

I think it automatically separates the tracks. The only disc I have that doesn't do that was recorded as one long track. However that sucks for getting to one specific track.

Gapless playback is the term most use to drescribe the feature you want. It's silly if it doesn't support it especially with all the live albums out there.

If it's plain audio, I don't think it's a question of "support" -- If the CD player is inserting silence after track markers I'm pretty sure it's a violation of the CD spec. |

I assumed he was talking mp3. But if it is doing it with (Red Book) CDs than someone needs to increase the bitchin level to BMW.

Here is the thread that I tried to post before...
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ighlight=audio The unit will insert silence in between tracks of store bought mixed CD's or anything that is burned that you have taken the time to put track markers on. The original poster found issues with the playback of mp3's but I have started to use a USB stick 100% for music and didn't give it the chance to reproduce the same thing he found. |

Shit. Write a letter to Phillips and complain that their CD player isn't a CD player. Do they not bother compliance testing for the "CD Digital Audio" brand anymore?

I'd bitch with you if I though my car would ever actually see an audio CD. WMA Lossless for me on thumbwheels.

Hey all! I posted the original message in the thread mentioned here.
Here is the scoop with the gapless playback problem: 1- The problem affects 2008 BMW Professional CD/Radio units 2- This is a problem with continuous mix AUDIO CDs (commercial or home made) The problem is that the CD unit will not recognize gapless playback and will stop for a second between songs that should play with no pause. This IS a problem (despite of BMW claims to the contrary) because gapless playback is native to the audio CD format and part of the standard 4- The same behavior occurs with mp3 CDs, but that it is "normal" because the mp3 standard does not support gapless playback. Some mp3 players (such as the new generation Ipod) do support gapless playback via clever tinkering with the mp3 files but that is not part of the standard. Solution: There is no solution...because according to BMW, there is no problem, see... Workarounds: 1- Rip your mix CD to mp3 and transfer to a "gapless playback" compliant mp3 player. Play using audio jack. Or if you have an iPod through the ipod interface. Playback should be gaplesss 2- rip your cd to wav, burn the wav files as a single audio file (any decent CD burner will let you do that) Voila! No more gaps (no more skip to a song either as you would have on your CD a single audio file) 3-Buy any other car but a 2008 BMW equipped with the Professional CD/Radio. I've heard that 2008 models with iDrive don't have this problem but I haven't tested it myself Anyway....a think everybody could do is send an e-mail to BMW of NA and let them know of the problem. Volume of e-mails and bad publicity is the only (minimal) chance of getting a fix. I considered filing a claim with the BBB but I learned that..surprise! surprise! BMW is NOT a member of the BBB.... Good luck everybody J |

But seriously, that's the only way around it that I know of. I've been driving one of my parents cars lately and listen to satelite radio. Never thought I'd ever say this, but it's actually pretty sick. Might just hook it up in the bimmer.

Can it burn gapless, but still skip to the next track like a regular mixtape?

When you burn a disc in iTunes, you can choose 0 seconds between songs. I'm not sure if it will still stop but I know in Nero, you can crossfade your songs like a half a second or whatever to the point where it is not noticeable and tracks will play continuously but you'll still be able to skip between tracks. I think you can also add track points, like so you can skip between songs, anywhere you want with Nero as well. Maybe that was the mixing software I use. Forgot, but the crossfading for Nero I's sure about.
