our q7 plays video like movies ect. does the x5 have that option?

Yes. I was playing movies from a usb stick. You can also screencast your phone and play them that way. The HK logic7 surround sound sounds awesome and the sound stage is perfect for movies.

I'm assuming the screencast is Android only?

Probably. I am using a galaxy note 8. BMW likes to inconvenience both brands of cell phones equally.

i didnt see a reference to type of file or size in the manual. On the audi the files have to be down-verted to 480p max.
will the x5 play .avi .mkv .wav

I was playing MP4 but there is a long list of other approved video formats in the manual. I did not down size all my videos and the iDrive didn’t seem to care.

I have Bimmercode and Bimmerlink + a Kiwi 3. Bimmercode will load 3 ECU's but none have any adjustments. Bimmerlink will only read sensor values (no exhaust flap control).

You can playback "video in motion" without coding, via Apple CarPlay + Jailbroken iPhone + Car Bridge tweak + Infuse / PLEX and or the "TV" app on your iOS device which shows your iTunes movies that are saved on your device. I am currently able to playback up to 4K HDR in MKV XVID MP4 MOV DIVX AVI etc. and audio codecs TrueHD 7.1 Atmos, DTS-X, Dolby Digital Plus transcoded to Dolby Digital 5.1 the great part is I am playing them remotely via LTE from my home server or if I downloaded the movies to my phone and all playback wirelessly from my phone that is sitting on the wireless charger tray.

The best part is that videos playback in the entirety of the iDrive's full screen (eye candy)

Can you play youtube on the idrive screen the way you have your phone set up?

Here's tutorial.

It's best to have 2nd iPhone (jailbroken) for CarPlay and enable WiFi hotspot in the car.
And use your regular phone (thru idrive) for the calls. In this set up connections are pretty stable for me...
