Car sounds an alert at me when driving
The car makes an audio alert when I'm just starting a trip. I know it's part of iDrive because it lowers the volume of the music I'm playing and I've heard the alert before. Anyone else having this or know what it is and how to prevent it?
Horrible description, I know.

No that's the thing that's bothering me. It's a quick staccato note sound and then nothing on the displays. I'll pay more attention next time and see if I notice anything different on them.

It could be the notification that the temperature has dropped to 37 degrees. I get this shortly after start up from the warmer garage to the cold outside temp. There is a notice at the bottom of the instrument cluster explaining something along the lines of the reduced temp can lead to freezing roads.

Possibly. It was in the 50s here today though. I have to go move the car right now anyways I'll see if I can catch a message.

Just went out to move the car. Heard the noise, but no graphical event corresponding with the sound. It's also in the high 40s, so it shouldn't be the external cold temperature alert.
I have a service appointment tomorrow anyways. I'll bring it up and see if they know what it's trying to tell me with that audio alert.

So it is thought to be the speed limit warning when traveling faster than what's posted. It did happen when I just started the car too, so we'll see if that hypothesis is correct.
Apparently the car is too awesome for limits?

I don't think it's the speed limit warning - I accidently set that to 5mph once and got a ding-dong chime and a warning in the instrument panel every time I went I exceeded 5mph.

So this happened to me yesterday as I was driving to the airport. Kinda was like "damn it, I'm having the same issue...wonder what it could be". So I park at the airport and it happens again...however, this time I figure out what it was.
My phone was not on silent and I had a reply to my thread on here! The noise from the app makes one "ding", the volume of the car lowers, just like if you were getting a text message notification, and since it's the bimmer app, it literally is the ding noise of the car. I'm 99% confident that's what happened with you. I laughed pretty good about it once it happened.

If you look whenever you got a notification - its within always within the timeframe of you driving, and getting a reply to one of your threads. Even look earlier. You had a reply here, and then 15-20 minutes later you responded saying "A little while ago it just happened as I was moving my car".
IT's LITERALLY THE DAMN APP NOISE NOTIFICATION SCARING US. LOL!!!!

I'll disable notifications for the app and see if that does it today.

If you want, go sit in the car with your phone not on silent and message me. I can reply to this thread to see if we can reproduce the noise.

Looks like it is it though. I heard the sound and then I grabbed the phone to see and then there was an alert from another app

I bet if we shut off the Show Notifications option in the Bluetooth that will fix it, but what would that prevent us from getting on the iDrive? I use CarPlay most of the time. Same with you?

I had the Bluetooth notifications off and got the sound without a new alert on the phone. Might be more to this sound after all. Any luck since silencing an app's notifications?

I haven't heard the sound since notifications from the bimmer app were turned off, and I was able to reproduce it with a friend. So the noise I heard was definitely from the app notification and not anything in the car. Maybe something is different with yours
